Penelope is a 9 week old Bun who I rescued last week, she’s a house rabbit so spends most of her time hopping round the house with me, except when I go to work so she is alone for 8 hours a day, but has that constant attention when I am back and has the freedom to do as she pleases. She seems happy enough but I’m just concerned as she is alone for them 8 hours, do I need to get her a friend?

If you have the space and resources you should definitely get a friend :) rabbits are really social animals and she will be bored and lonely when you leave for long periods of time. If you do get a friend, make sure you let them meet before you get it - rabbits need to choose their own friends and won’t necessarily like the rabbit that you choose, and you could end up with two bunnies living separately!!

The best mix is apparently a male neutered and female neutered :) but any neutered pairing should get on okay

She's too young to consider getting her a friend. Getting one at this age is just asking for trouble. You'll need to wait until she is spayed and healed. Then, and only then, can she be introduced to other fixed rabbits to pre-screen for potential compatibility. This is the only way to ensure you wind up with an actual bond.

She's still young and cannot bond with another rabbit. Any appearance of a bond would only be temporary and would change with the onset of hormones.

You can read more on bonding here.

Sorry I didn’t realise how young she was, blue eyes is right wait until she is sexually mature and neutered

^ which is fine if you will be around a lot, but if you are its only company, and you are working 8 hours a day, it’s not fair to leave a social animal home alone all day, imo.
