Should I Choose A Doe or A Buck To Upgrade The Quality?

Breeders in my location suggested that I use a buck cause bucks have stronger blood, hence the higher probability of producing better quality based on standards.

I want to pick a doe tho to easily reach F4 in breeding coz bucks can be used earlier for breeding than does.

Just my opinion but you want both doe and buck to be good quality/type; however, if you could only afford one at a time I’d choose to get the best doe you can afford first. In our experience the characteristics of the doe come through the kits more often, but you still will need good type bucks.

Thanks for your answer! I also have the same observation with does, I wonder if they just said that buck characteristics are more dominant coz bucks are harder to out compared to does.

You use a buck more often than you a doe. A buck might have dozens of litters a year, while a doe might have a few. So you want a really good buck because if you end up using him a lot (which you should, if he is good) he'd have more influence on your herd overall than a really good doe might. So if I had to choose on either bringing in a buck or a doe that was significantly higher quality than what I already had, I would choose the buck.

I agree with SableSteel in that you should pick a good buck instead of a doe. You can also then easily pick the best doe out of the litter to breed back to your buck and you can start producing excellent quality kits!

Giving a rescue bun a home saves a life, it doesn't create more.

but I do think there are different ways to look at it. I placed more value on my does because I can use different bucks with one doe to find the best combination. Ideally, you want the best trio you can for your foundation rabbits.
