What's up with the Search function?

I saw a thread about it, in another area, and just wanted to make sure everyone had a heads up about it, which I'm sure you all do.

I tested it with a search on hay and only 50 hits were returned back, and they were all from either March 2004 or September 2009.

How can this be fixed?

I am willing to help.

We have an editing binge to fix spacing in old posts. Essentially, when the server was moved back in 2006, the spacing in posts was automatically reconfigured, causing words toruntogether like that. As such, the search engine believes those are all "new" words, and exhausts itself trying to figure out what they mean.

No one was able to do any searches at all for awhile, so it was decided that the engine be limited to searching only very recent posts back to a date in time when we can verify that there were no significant spacing errors.

Hopefully, an editing binge can be done this fall to correct spacing manually. The last binge was in March or May... requires a lot of labour and committment to get it done.
Basically, you open a thread, and click through, inserting spaces where appropriate. Time consuming!

Anyhoo, that's the gist of it... I can recruit you for the editing week :D
Maybe you know an easier way to do it??

I wish I was so smart. :p

I wonder if there's a program that can separate strung together words and put the spaces back in?
