Zin called me a bit ago to let me know that they had found Gabby had passed away. When they first found her - there was no sign of anything being wrong - no discharge from her nose - nothing wrong with her ears, etc. etc. etc. Rusty did a necropsy and found tumors in her uterus and they suspect that is what caused her death.
For those who may not know or remember - I rescued Gabby from the feed store this spring. She was a retired "show doe" that someone didn't want any more...for some strange reason - she called out to me and I HAD to have her.
In July, after our air conditioning had broken down - Zin took George and Gabby so that we could move more rabbits into the house and out of the hot garage. I later offered to take Gabby back - but when Zin and I talked - I could hear in her voice how much she had come to enjoy Gabby and a game they played whenever Zin was nearby. I felt like perhaps Gabby had come to me - so that she could then wind up living with Zin.
When Zin called me - I wasn't upset because I've learned over the last couple of years that sometimes you lose a rabbit no matter what. Gabby was in a house with a vet - and Zin (who takes great care of her rabbits and I consider her a "rabbit whisperer" in many ways)...and yet...no one knew she was ill. She hid it that well.
Here are a few pictures of her..
"Queen Gabby" on her throne:
and in the middle of a molt while blowing her coat..
With a very pregnant Gracie on a day when we were trying to get them to cool off in our bedroom
Binky free sweetheart - and talk up a storm to everyone there just like you used to talk to me....
