My neighbors moved( may still be in process of moving out see them every once in awhile... they had two dogs... they took the small one with them and left the other one and no one feeds her.... the humane society can't take her and every other rescue is full... I have been feeding her everyday because I feel sorry for her... she was very shy but is coming around and recognizes us... I feed her at the end of her driveway because I don't want to go on their property... they left about a month ago... I can not take in anymore dogs because I have way to many... but I cannot let her go hungry either.... I don't really know these people ... they were always a litlle snooty especially the wife... I only knew the son because he went to school with my kids... the husband wasn't to bad... he just wasn't overly freindly but the wife never would wave back when we waved or anything.... I really don't know what to do with this dog... she really loves my kids and looks so sad... I live in the country no real close neighbors but I really don't need another dog... I did buy her a raw hide bone today when I bought my dogs one... I am such a sucker...lol I hate people who do things like this... I don't know how they can do thingsd like this to animals...

we live on a dead end road... last year someone tied 2 dogs to gether and tied them to a tree at the end of our road which is wooded... my husband found them when he heard one of the hollering... one was dead and had been dead for quit sometime and the weight of that one was pulling on the other ones collar and when my husband was trying to get the other dog loose his skin was growing over the collar and chain and he was full of magots and couldn't get them loose so he had to shoot the dog... he called the sherriffs department about it and told them what happened and they said" what do you want us to do about it".... my husband was sick about having to do it but the dog was suffering and he couldn't get them apart...

my dad had someone drop a doberman pincher off at his house about 6 months ago... very sweet dog loved the kids... he couldn't find its owner so he decided to keep the dog so he went to take him to the vet to get his shots and he attacked my dad the only way to get the dog off him was to shoot the dog... the dog just wouldn't let go of his arm and he ended up having to have surgery .... the sherriffs office came out and got the dogs body to test it for rabies...

so I am leary about taking in stray dogs and ones I don't know... but I just can't let her go hungry and she is a beautiful dog...

Can you contact the ASPCA or something? I am pretty sure that there are laws about animal abandonment. Maybe call the police. I know it may be a long shot, but you really should do something.
Maybe contacting a rescue that takes dogs form all over the country or state.

From what I understand, that is illegal. Why shoot the dog when there are more humane ways...as in veterinarians who can humanely euthanize the dog (if that even needed to be done) or remove the embedded collar (which is successfully done all the time).

Who could shoot an injured dog that poses no threat, but obviously needs medical attention....not a death sentence?

The Exact SAME THING happened to me about a year ago. They took there small one and left the other one. It would be creepy if the dog who was left there was a lab. It makes me mad when people do stuff like that...

Simple view if your already feeding it and your kids like the dog why not take it in? the dearest thing of a dog is it's feeding aslong as it doesn't have any problems.

If you haven't been in their shoes, you cannot say what went through their minds. It's a mercy killing. We've had to do them before (for wildlife). I think that a shot is less painful than having to rip the collar out and take it somewhere else to die.

People in our apartment building moved out and left their bonded rabbits in their apartment. The manager asked me if I could take them, sadly, I said no. That was before I thought of taking on more animals. They are still at the shelter... :(

This stuff just puts me in pure disgust....animals are not disposable...i wish people would realize this.

Does she have any shelter ?

What breed is she? A lot of breed dogs have rescues that hopefully could help you out, because obviously she cant stay out there, she needs a home of her own :( Poor girl, please update when you can.

These stories are just terrible, I cant believe no animal control or rescue could help out....this is just insane....Couldnt you have brought the dog to a vet, and either have the vet help someway or humanly put the poor pup to sleep?

What made the doberman attack....a dog normally doesnt attack for no reason?

These stories just break my heart...I wish all owners were more responsible of their pets so stuff like this doesnt happen...they are not disposable and take a lot of time and care, I guess a lot of people dont realize this or dont care too :(

Who said a dog with an embedded collar HAD to die? Embedded collars look terribly disgusting and it seems like a death sentence, but that doesn't have to be the case.

By the way...no one had to rip the collar off. If the dog had been taken to a vet, it would have been put under anesthetic and the collar might possibly could have been successfully removed...then the dog could have lived.

Obviously there is no telling what could have happened, as it is over. It's too bad the dog didn't get another chance at life, after being neglected by it's previous owners.

I just think that before people go shooting animals, they need to take a look at their local laws. I am pretty sure shooting and killing a dog is extremely illegal...just like shooting and killing a human isn't exactly legal.

I know there are alot gentler ways to put to sleep, but if done properly they don't feel a thing. Bringing a vet out to the country and getting them to euthanise a large dog can cost quite alot of money as can taking it to the vet and having it sedated to remove the collar which bat42072 would most likely end up having to shoulder.

Is there anyway you can foster the dog until a place opens up for the dog?

That still doesn't make it right, mind you.

Hopefully one day a person that is capable of shooting and killing a suffering animal....will one day decide to just shoot a dying person instead of getting that person to the hospital...man...what a waste of time and energy. Phew...and the cost associated with that!

It's pretty much the same concept, in my mind. It's illegal and tragic, human and animal.

I'm done, as I have made my point. The dog is dead, due to an inhumane and illegal death.

^^ yeah that

- I really htink that you should take teh dog in or something somehow.. maybe foster it? then find a nice home ? if this dog gets along with your other dogs then i really think you should.

I know when I posted that it was going to make people mad... he tried to get the dog loose and he could not get any one out to help... He doesnot just go around shooting injured animals ... trust me he has a bigger heart than I do about animals and it really brioke his heart to do it... we have no animal control where I live if we did we wouldn't have the problems we do with people dumping their pets... the dog was in severly bad shape and if he could have gotten the dog loose from the tree he was tied to and the dog that had died the dog would most likely would not even have made it to the vet... He did call the sheriffs department and the would not even respond to this call aspca is a couple of hours away from us... I guess my husband could have just left the dog there like the cruel owners did ... the dog was being strangled to death... I would have loved to get the dog to the vet...

He does not know what made the doberman attack... the only thinmg he can think of is he had on a baseball cap and went to get him out of the yard to go to the vet for shots... what was scary that dog played with my nephew the day before... we think maybe someone may have abused him in the past... he was a young dog

Is she just running around loose? Or is she tethered? Does she have shelter, or is she just finding a place to stay out of the elements? It's wonderful for you to be feeding her. I know it can be hard, but you're at least giving her some affection that her previous owners did not. I hate hearing about people abandoning animals. I've heard about it one too many times.
