here we go again lol. Sorry..... so I’ve had had Arlo for 4 weeks. He’s 2 months old (12 weeks) as you can see from the photo he has a huge litter box and I’ve found it to be very helpful to just put the hay in the litter box itself instead of in a hay feeder. But Arlo likes to sit on top of the hay sometimes while he’s eating it. Will he still eat the hay if it has some droppings in it? (Couldn’t get a picture of him sitting on top of the hay)

Pooping on hay isn't a problem. Their fecal poop, when normally formed, is dry and pretty clean. it won't affect the hay at all.

It's good to always provide plenty of hay. Some will get peed on and wasted. That's normal. If you buy expensive pet store hay, getting hay by the bale is cheaper and makes your bun wasting some hay less of an issue.

True, bales are infinetly cheaper than pet store hay. We got our 8 bales of hay (about five kilos per bale?) from a farmer about half-hour drive away, and only paid 5eur for it. I asked what the mixture was, and it was a mixture of timothy/orchard hay.
Storm will waste a massive amount of hay (his is in the box as well) cause he likes to dig at it, then flip his bum around and pee on it, so i will top it with newer hay, and after about three days when i empty em up, his box will be filled, almost to the brim, with about a generous 5cm of hay.
Lümi wastes much less as he isn't so prone to dig around his hay, so his layer only accumulates about a centimeter.
Neither has given much respect to poo being there, they will just eat around it.
Massive waste but i won't worry about it since our hay is so cheap.

Xiao Wu will leave a literal pile on her hay and eat around it. It's when it gets too full of urine she begins to protest. So we have to change her box twice a day.
