Hi Folks
My rabbit had his teeth burred yesterday under anaesthetic and came home same day. He gradually getting appetite back but has diarrhoea. Is this normal? Could be the meds inside him still do you think? I wondered if snyone has had this too with their bunny. He’s his usual self snd is 10.

The diarrhea is because his appetite is not yet back to normal. If his appetite continues to come back he should be fine and not need any medicine. If he continues to have diarrhea even after his appetite is normal, call your vet. Is he on any pain meds? Sometimes meds will cause diarrhea.

Yes metacam although he is now eating more now. Plus his runny poo looked worse because there was a lot of hay stuck to his bottom which between me snd him we have removed most. To be safe removed the hay he sleeps on for now until poo is normal. He’s never eaten hay. Soft pellets is his only main food due to age and teeth.

If he is not producing any normal round fecal balls but it is all watery or pasty diarrhea coming out, I would phone your vet right away. True diarrhea is considered an emergency situation in rabbits as it can mean they have developed enterotoxemia.

If he is producing normal round fecal balls as well as the mushy poop, it could just be from the meds and anesthesia, and should gradually improve in the next day or two. But if in doubt, best to always phone your vet and ask them.
