Rabbit Blindness

Hi,
I'm a real newbie when it comes to rabbits. My girlfriend and her daughter have recently taken up rabbit breeding. But could you answer a question for me:
Can rabbits "go blind" in the absence of direct light? We keep them in cages in the basement where they also do get plenty of daylight through two windows. Despite this fact, they want to keep 2 led shop lights on day and night in fear that they will lose their sight.
Is there anyone out there who can help straighten this out?

So I'm not an expert. But I don't think that you should worry too much. But again, I'm not an expert. Maybe someone who knows more about rabbits can confirm this.

I've not heard of this. In the wild, rabbits spend the vast majority of their time underground so I don't think it would cause them blindness to be without light.
However having less light makes rabbits less fertile. A lot of people provide supplemental lighting in the winter if they want to keep breeding through it, and if they're living in a darker area and you're planning on breeding you might want to have supplemental lighting anyway.
