Hi all,
I'm new to this forum so hi!
Anyway my rabbit Ban bang has been acting a little strange over the last few days, i'm not sure if i should be worried or not. Its summer here and has been very hot, we've been keeping her cool with frozen ice blocks etc. Whenever i open up her enclosure she can't wait to get out and will always run out even if its ahot day(andwillfind somewhere cool to lay down). The last few days, today included, she has just lay there. Today wasn't even a hot day and its now late afternoon so its a really nice temp but she dosn't seem to want to come out and that worries me!!!
Am I over reacting or should I take her to the vet?
Any advice would be appriciated!!
:dunno

Hey, welcome to the forum and :happy new year: (Belated, for you). ;)

Have you been monitoring her poops? Are they normal?

Is she eating and drinking any more or less?

Air circulation is really important in the heat. Is her mouth or chest a little damp? That's a sign of serious overheating.

Let me know!

She resides in an avairy is VERY well ventilated, there a shade-cloth tent thing over that so the cage is in shade all day, her eating seems much the same.
The poop bit is what i'm not so sure about.
She poops in;
1. her litter tray
2. her bed
The poop in the tray looks normal, however the poop on the bed is either not hers or hers and not right. We just found rats the other night, they didnt seem to be able to get into the cage, however i'm not positive they havn't. So i'm not sure if its rat poop or hers. I've had rats before so I know what there poop looks like. Its smaller then her other poo but ofa similar shape...
So i'm not sure if its rat poo or rabbit poo!?

Small poops are a sign of an ailing rabbit. Is she molting? Is she eating?

If those are her poops, and they're small and/or misshapen, you're going to have to start treating her rightaway for stasis. It would help to know what'scausing it, but for the immediate future, start getting herdrinking as much as you can.Try a little Pedialyte, that will help to hydrate her. Andsome canned pumpkin is a good wet fiber.

If she's not eating on her own (and if those are her poops, it probably means her appetite is down), you mayhave to give her food and waterwith a syringe. If you can get to vet, they'll give her a sub-q infusion -- hydration via a needle under the skin.

What's her appetite like? Is she grinding her teeth? Pressing her tummy on the ground?

(Sorry, I'm trying to re-bond rabbits, have to type quickly and run!)

If you know for sure there's rats, that could be what's upsetting her.

However, it seems weird they'dget in hercage and poop on her bed. What do the poops look like?

the roof of the cage is wire so i was thinking initally that there walking around on the roof and pooping and its landing on her bed?
I've just run in from being outside with her, she seems to be eating ok, she came out went for a binkie but then put herself to bed, she has since come out again and sat with me whilst munching on some hay.
I work at a vet clinic so i think just to be safe ill get the vet to check her over, if im still worried in a few days ill make an appointment with the rabbit vet, better to be safe then sorry i think!

So she is eating? Is she eating everything like normal, or is she ignoring something? I'd also recommend doing a full cleaning of her cage so you can keep track of her poops. That way you'll know if she's pooping, how much, and if they look normal. Is it normal for her to poop in her bed, or is that a new thing?

What does her stomach feel like? Is it tight and bloated, or does it feel normal?

She seems a lot better today, I think it was just the heat knocked her around a bit. I cleaned her cage yesterday and checked it today her poop looks normal. I have her a range of food last night and she ate from each bit and also ate my seedlings:)mad: )

Her tummy just feels... fat...maybe because she's a tad over weight...how do u get a bunny to loose some weight?! She gets hours and hours of exercise each day, I feed her the recommended amount..

What kind of pellets are you feeding her? If it's not a recognized brand like Oxbow BB, what's the protein, fibre and fat content like?

Does she eat a lot of Timothy hay?

Its really hard to get 'brand' food in Perth, in fact i don't know where to go to get it!!! She gets hay, muesli and pellets, none of a brand just from a local pet shop, I give her greens as well... If there is anyone else in Perth, Western Aus that knows where to get the brand food, please tell me?
There is noinformation on nutrients and protein, I have been tempted to make my own but i wouldn't know where to start

I'd skip the muesli and only give her plain pellets, along with hay and veggies. All those seeds and grains have a lot of carbs and often upset bunny stomachs.

I've heard some people in Australia are able to get Oxbow pellets from their vets, but it's really expensive.
