I was wondering if frontline plus and advantageare safe to use on bunnies. i remember reading somewhere thatyou cannot use frontline on bunnies but after doing a search here andskimming through the results, i get the impression that both frontlineand advantage are in fact safe to use. is this correct?

i actually dont see any reason to talk to a vetabout it, it seems that a great many people use these products on theirrabbits. i have always gotten way more useful informationabout animals from online forums than vets.

i did some more research and found out thatadvantage is safe for rabbits but frontline is not. in caseanyone else was wondering the same thing. frontline has beenknown to kill rabbits.

My rabbit usesAdvantage for kittens under 9 pounds. Some rabbit's could have allergicreactions by licking it off. All rabbits are different and it won'twork for everybunny. But never use medications that are for dogs.
I'm not totally sure if frontline is safe for rabbits but I wouldn't risk it on my bun.:dunno:

Advantage (for cats)is safeto use on guinea pigs (to treat for lice) but Frontline is not, Iwonder if that's the samefor rabbits?

What are you trying totreat for?

Hi,

Frontline should NEVER be used on a rabbit as many rabbits havedied after application. Advantage has been used successfullyby many but there have been some problems with some rabbits. We use Revolution on all incoming rescues and have never had a problemat all.

Revolution is used in guinea pigs to treat for lice and mites, what is it used to treat for in rabbits?

Thanks :)

NEVER USE FRONTLINE

Revolution for kittens is used for fleas in rabbits. Please explain tome how to use it on guinea pigs for mites..I'm interested in whether wecould do it at the shelter.

I've used Revolution for mites on all four of myrabbits. I consulted my vet first. I did someresearch and the vet contacted the company to check to see if it wassafe to use on rabbits. No problems. I've also usedAdvantage onthree of my rabbits for fleas. Also noproblem.

Ive used revolution for puppies and kittens onmy bunnies (including 5week old kits On the vets advice) for fur/strawmite and it worked well.

i used ivomec on another bunny for fur/straw mites (at the sametime)and it didnt work. i read that ivomec only works onblood sucking parasites. is this true?

I ended up using revolution on him as well, though i can still see somein his coat above his tail. When the bugs die do they fall off or arethey stuck to the hair shaft and have to be brushed out?

Thanxs in advance

I agree with you. I unfortunately dont have abunny vet anywhere near me and i get soo much info from breeders whohave been there and done that already and they know what works and whatdoesnt,

The vet i do go to if i have to charged me $44 to look at bugs on a 5week old kit (they were straw/Fur mites) then i paid $38 for a pack ofrevolution as well. and i asked her if she could sex the kit4 me while i was there, as Im new to breeding, she did and shewas wrong!!!a week later a bunny friend came over and sexed them for meAnd that only cost me a coffee and cake.LOL!!!:bunnydance::bunnydance::bunnydance::bunnydance::Australia:

If your only treating for mites you can use ivermectin (horse pastewormer is what I use) lice only you can use advantage and if you aretreating for bothlice and mites you can use Revolution:)Dosing on revolution is two drops on bare skin behindeachear on an adult and one drop per ear onyoungsters.

Here is some good info on how to identify and treat:http://www.caviesgalore.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39385

Hope this helps!
