Hi. I am new to the forum, and recently rescueda one year old male and he so different from any other rabbit that Ihave ever owned. My last rabbit I had for eight years, and adopted himat four years of age. He was the most friendly rabbit in the world! However, this rabbit came from a home where he was in a cage 24/7 andthree little children harrassed him. I constantly let him out of hisbig cage, and give him fresh foods, grain, and timothy hay. However, henever seems like he is happy, even though he interacts with my threecats, whom never have harmed him. I am in the process of planting grassand clover on my deck with a rabbit fence so he can roan out there, buthe just does not ever seem happy. He will sit with his nose and feetout of the cage when I get home, but I do not want to leave him out allday because I don't know how the cats will be without constantsupervision. He has light in his room, and it is a nice temperature. Ijust do not know what I am doing wrong. His cage is always clean, andhe gets affection, although he does not want it from humans too much. Ireally need help figuring out his "depression", because I am tryingeverything! Thanks so much!

It sounds like you are doing a great job withthis little guy, and I would just continue giving him all the love youcan. Having been harrassed for awhile by small children (WHYPARENTS WHY?) has probably turned him into a more reservedrabbit. In addition, some rabbits are naturally less playful, just like humans. They have differentpersonalities. Also, are you sure he is healthy? Ifhe is lethargic, maybe it would help to get him checked by a vet to beassured that he has no health problems.

He seems healthy, from what I have gathered. He eats normally, as well as void and has BM's normally. He just seem depressed.

It is just going to take time for him to trust you.

It could also just be his personality. Daphnebun has had the run of the house (most of the time) for the past threeyears. She had the best bonded male buddy. They got along great. I gotDaphie from a kit so she was never harmed. But, no matter what time ofday it was I could always find her stretched out under the chinacabinet. She never ran the house like her sister did. Never did she hoparound checking out this and that like Casey did. There she would beplopped down under that cabinet. Once in a while she would follow Caseybunny into the living room and find a plop spot. She just doesn'tfeelcomfortable in a large open area. She just seemed to behappier in a "protected" spot. I thought she was unhappy as well. Ijust accepted that her personality dictates that she have that feel ofsecurity and didn't wander too far away from her "warren".

He has been getting a little friendlier. I leavehim out when I am home and he has been coming to me when I go in theroom. Too bad my cat now has a raging UTI, BunBun has no one to playwith! :(
