Miss Bea most definitely is not herself - refusing her treats (or barely touching them).

I just discovered she has ear mites deep inside one ear - and it looks (and smells) like she has an ear infection going on too.

I'm about to give her pain meds and a shot for the infection - I've already given her some baby food and stuff to get something in her.

She's going to be five pretty soon - so it is hard to see my old girl like this.

Oh well - I'm off to take care of her....but please send prayers and healing thoughts her way.

I wonder if there is a way to make sure they don't get ear mites/get rid of them if you get them once...... Where do they pick them up anyhow?

Poor girl

Poor Miss Bea! I will be thinking of her! I was talking about bunnies all evening to non-bunny people. I will keep the thoughts going for her!

I'm sorry Peg ':(

Just recently I read about all your losses and felt bad that I didn't even read about it until so much later (I stay in here most of the time) I/m sorry that you are going through so much
Do you have access to ivermectin or revolution

the other thing that came to mind when you mentioned the odor is the possibility of a fungal infection ?

Let us know how she is doing ?

Oh dear. Let us know how the treatment goes. Best of luck.

I'm going to try to make this a short update so people will be prepared.

I am almost sure we will be losing Miss Bea sometime in the next 24 hours. Its breaking my heart and I'm in tears right now even trying to think about it.

She won't touch her food or her favorite treats and has started to even turn up her nose at baby food. We've used gas meds, pain meds, etc - but her body temp continues to get cooler in spite of being kept warm.

I think my girl wants to cross the bridge and be with Tiny (and New Hope) again. She dearly loved her two hus-buns and sometimes I felt like she was just marking time and waiting to join them.

She was eating and drinking and doing well up until today - but its almost like she's given up hope (and not just because of the minor case of ear mites). If I didn't know better - I'd think she truly just wants to let go and wants me to let her go.

I will update later either way...for now I'm going to head back to bed and try to get some sleep before I have to work tomorrow.

For those who don't know Miss Bea - here was a recent contest entry I did for her....

About five minutes ago - she woke me up with her little cries...and now...she's gone.

Binky Free my baby girl.....binky free.

I'll do her RB thread later.

I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP, Miss Bea.. have a joyful reunion with Tiny and New Hope at the Bridge.

The mites are contracted from close contact (generally the dam to the kits). Most animals have a natural resistance that keeps the population of these microscopic pests under control. However, when the immune system is weakened, the mites may reach symptomatic numbers. In some cases, the lack of resistance to mite infections has been found to be an inherited trait.

Like most parasites, theycan bedifficult to completely irradicate. A few resistant individuals are generally not affected by the anti-parasitic medications.

In Miss Bea's case, her age was most likely a factor.

 So sorry Peg... so very sorry... :cry2

Peg, I am so sorry. This is so sad. I hope she is binkying and having a marvellous time with her husbuns. I'm just truly deeply sorry. Just poke me if you want a chat or anything.

Binky Free Miss Bea. Play with Tiny and New Hope until your heart is content.

I just got online and saw this. I am so sorry.

:cry2I don't know what to say, Peg..... I'm just so very sorry..... shocked, and just so sad.

Right now I'm devastated - almost beyond belief.

I woke up to find we lost another rabbit - which makes 3 rabbits in 12 hours. Shortly before we lost Miss Bea - we lost Pow Wow's son "Brave Lil Injun".....now I find out we lost M'Beason....Miss Bea's grandson.

Robin is going around now handing out cheerios, etc. to all of the bunnies and we'll be handing out hay as soon as I get some fresh hay.

The ONLY thing the three had in common is the food - and we'd just started new bags two or three days ago.

I can't talk right now - or type.
