A little bit of backstory, as there is so much going on

Sunday morning, my male bunny Gremlin passed away. His mate, Izzy, has got crusty fur under one eye and has been sneezing every so often today.

Saturday my husband said she had been sneezing, but I never heard it once. Izzy has also had a cool sometimes damp nose but it seems to come and go. Her front paws are not crusty, and there isno visible discharge on her nose.

I'm worried about Izzy becausenot only is she grieving, but now she might possibly have snuffles. I'm sure Izzy's weepy eye didn't start overnight, but Gremlin surely was grooming her.

I don't know if Izzy is truly sick or just having issues coping with Gremlin being gone. She has an appointment with our vet tomorrow, so hopefully he can shed some light on this.

Also, I'm concerned because I had planned on taking Izzy on some bunny dates and trying to find her a new friend, but if she has snuffles, which I understand to be incurable, would I not be able to get another rabbit companion for her?

Hoping Izzy feels better soon. Please let us know what the Vet comes up with.

I would be stumped too. The way bunnies get depressed when they loose a partner, it could be just that. But then again, it could be something. You never know.

Better safe than sorry. Hoping all goes well tomorrow. And it's not snuffles.

Take it one step at a time regarding another bunny partner for Izzy. Find out first what is wrong and also discuss it with your Vet regarding when another bunny can come to your home.

K :)

A companion for her is a good idea I think, but I'd be a bit worried about getting the other bunny sick. Maybe wait a little bit and see how things go. Maybe check with the vet, if this is dental issues, causing runny eyes, then another bunny would be fine.

Well Izzy just got back from the vet, and he told me she does indeed have snuffles. He assured me that she'll be just fine and prescribed her some meds to clear it up.

The vet tech (who has had bunnies for 13+ years, one of the reasons I love this clinic) told me that since I do not plan to cage the buns together, bringing a friend for Izzy into our home shouldn't be a problem, provided we keep an eye on both of them.

I'm guessing that the stress of losing Gremlin provoked the snuffles, as Izzy has always been healthy previously. I'm planning on having her spayed in the next month, and after she's overthat we'll consider bringing an additional bunny into our home.

Forgive me for posting again, but I'm new to this stuff (never had a bunny with snuffles before)

So I took Izzy to the vet last Wed, and he looked at her eye, listened to what I told him about sneezing and told me she had snuffles.

He prescribed her sulfatrim suspension, and I've been giving her 1/2 cc orally twice a day.

He told me to give it to her for five days, and stop if it looked like she was better, and if she wasn't to continue for another five days.

Today we're at day five, and she is still sneezing occasionally, and her nose is still a tiny bit damp at the tip. Her eye looks better, but is still somewhat matted.

I'm worried because the day after she's done with her medicine, I have to leave town for a week. I'm going to get my mother to come over and check on her, but shouldn't she be getting better by now? I'm wondering if snuffles is even the problem, because she never had thick snot, it was always invisible and her nose just felt a tiny bit damp, and she doesn't sneeze in long jags, it's more like ten or so times a day and only once or twice each time. Could it be allergies instead?

She is eating and pooping, so I know she's okay there. She also has bursts of activity and rest, just as she always has. I could cancel my trip, but I'd rather not if it's not necessary, but if she needs me, I won't leave her

Only you know how important the trip is, if it can be postponed etc. Right after going off any medication is a critical time, so it's a tough call. If your mother hasn't been seeing her while she's sick, would she recognize a turn for the worse?

She would definitely see a difference, she's been around Izzy plenty of times before she was sick, she's seen Izzy since she's been sick, and when she comes over to check on her, I will have her stay alittle whileso Izzy can get out of her house for a bit.

I'm just worried as to why she is still sneezing and has a very slightly damp nose, though I do trust my mom to care for her. She also knows where our vet is, so she could take her if necessary. Also, I was told I didn't need to disinfect her cage, but should I? Would it help her get over being sick faster?
