My rabbit gave birth unexpectedly last Tuesday. Unfortunately one kit died but we have 2 remaining. One seems to be a lot smaller and I'm Not sure if he is a peanut or just the runt. He has lots of fur and looks like he is being fed by maybe not as much as the other one. Any thoughts? Pics of both below

I would say he's a runt, as long as hes getting milk and staying nice and round, you don't need to be too concerned. I have a runt in my litter of 11, and at first I thought he was a peanut but he got plenty of milk - he's just half the size of the rest. Keep a good eye on him though. How old are they in the photos?

Thank you, I don't know if it should give him some feeding time alone with Mum just to make sure he is being fed? They are a week old today.

As long as it gets fed I don't think that's neccessary here, there are only two of them, not 10.

Wait, are these eyes open? You might want to search for "max factor", I think there was something - but I'm not familiar with small breeds.

Anyway, there isn't much you can do now, if the doe does a good job I wouldn't intervene too much.

Ok thanks. No the eyes are still closed it's just the black fur around them making it look like they are open. I will keep my fingers crossed for it.

I managed to get some pictures if them together today. I'm really starting to think he is a peanut as his ears are so small?

OMGOODNESS yeeeeeeeeees I think you are right, as the ears are TINY!!!!!! How old are they in the pictures?

Peanuts don’t typically live past a few days or week at the most. They also look out of proportion, usually in the head and maybe smaller limbs. This one may just be a runt and/or it has some developmental issues where the body doesn’t absorb nutrients like it should. If it’s a ‘failure to thrive’ situation then it will die at some point, sorry.

We have prepared ourselves that it won't survive so are just hoping it doesn't end up in any pain. It's still eating everyday from mum as she does it in front of us sometimes so will just have to see what happens with it I think. The more time goes on the more attached we are getting though!

Unfortunately our little peanut had to be put to sleep at the weekend as he was struggling to breathe and suffering quite a lot according to the vet. We had tried our best the last few weeks hand feeding him but he just wasn't well enough to make it

I'm so sorry! He was a cutey! :(
btw-the other one looks a lot like my rabbit! What kind is it?
