So my parents are moving and I made another thread about this asking about how to transport them from one house to another. Well now I got another problem. I really love the bunnies but my mom doesn’t have the money to live in a house and my dad doesn’t want to take care of a house. Which means they would both probably move into apartments. If they moved into an apartment then I would only keep one bunny as an emotional support animal. I really love both of my bunnies and I am very attached to them. Hermione is really nice and energetic and has a big personality, but she won’t let me hold her or cuddle her or even pet her. I haven’t seen Skylar’s personality shine much because she lives in a playpen and She doesn’t have the space to do much besides some zoomies and binkis. Skylar will let me hold her and will let me pet her a lot. I love her. I know that with both bunnies they both help me when I have anxiety or depression. I love both of them and they both help me through a lot of tough times. But if they both help me and I love them both equally then if I keep one then not have the other then I’ll be missing that one small part that I need. I really love both of them and I don’t know what I’m going to do. My mom doesn’t have Money for a house yet and my dad doesn’t want the responsibility of taking care of a house. I don’t know what to do. Should I just get rid of both of them and try to find a bunny with both of those qualities or should I try to figure it out with the bunnies I already have. I’m trying not to stress it much right now because my parents haven’t found a house yet but I just want to plan ahead. Thank you for all your help, I’m so glad we have a bunny community.

I think you should at least keep one of them, you are going through a tough time and when your parents split. I’m sure you would want to find a bit comfort and safety somewhere. A bunny can help you get through it. Myself know how hard aniexty and depression is to handle. Been handling it for many years, so when a major event happens in life it can feel good knowing you have a friend.

Just so you don’t start to feel lonely, if you rehome both bunnies. But optimal would be if you could keep both.

I hope you will be able to find a solution that will fit for you raven 💕🌸

Thanks.

I was thinking about rehoming both bunnies and getting a bunny that has some of both of their characteristics that I could find. I would feel bad for doing that though because it wouldn’t be very fair to the bunnies I have right now.

Why do you have to give up the bunnies? Can their set up go in your space at both apartments? Every bunny is different (like people) so it would be extremely hard to predict the personality of an unknown bunny especially if they are under 1 as their personalities change with growth to adults. Are you bunnies currently outside bunnies? Ideally, you should keep them both with you especially as this is and will continue to be a difficult time with lots of changes for all concerned.

If my parents were to move to apartments, it would be hard and expensive to find one that is pet friendly so if I were to keep a bunny or get a new one it would have to be my emotional support animal for I sometimes have a lot of anxiety and depression. So I’d only be able to have one bunny, some of you are saying that the bunnies should stay together because they’re already bonded, so if both of my parents move to a place with a no-pet policy then I should try to find a different bunny from a shelter or rescue that I could adopt that would have a lot of personality and would let me pet it and hang out with it. Also my bunnies are indoor bunnies and would live in my room, if my parents move to apartments then I will probably let them free roam more than just my room because I’m not sure how large the apartment would be and we won’t have any other animals to scare them or hurt them.

Hopefully, this will be a non issue. Most parents want to help their children (despite their own adult issues) so should know you'll need as much support as possible during this difficult time. They may or may not have enough emotional reserves to help you but it wouldn't hurt to remind each of them how important your bonded bunnies are to you and your mental health which should encourage them to only seek 'pet friendly' apartments to move into. I don't know how the designation works for 'emotional support animals'. Is an individual maxed out at one???

Yes you can only have one emotional support animal a person, I don’t like it because bunnies are social animals and need more than just it’s owner, they need a companion. I hope my parents will at least try to help and let me keep my bunnies. I really love them and they mean so much to me.

Do your best to try to find a calm moment and TELL this to each of your parents. You can't control their choices but you can communicate your concerns and desire for a continued relationship with your bunnies. Hopefully, they will keep you in mind when they choose where to live post divorce. Just remember, it is a difficult time for everyone involved - your parents too.

Any updates? Wishing you the best!
Well we recently painted the walls and the bunnies are staying in the furnace room until we get the carpets done in my room. My dad is planning on keeping this house. It is a little hard because Skylar looks like she’s staring to get sore hocks and I’m a little worried about her and my parents aren’t sure if they want to take her to the vet no matter what I say.
