Update for everyone: Papaya and I are home! He started nibbling on some pellets and hay at the clinic :D When I got home he hopped right into his cage (bad mummy) and pooped, had a pee and started nibbling on some hay! YAY!! I just fed him his pellets and he wasent too interested in them. Took a couple of bites and that's it. He is doing well for the most part. He is hopping around and then resting. Kiwi is beside him (there's a bunny barrier) so hopefully her presents makes him feel better.

I am nervous that he's not thrilled with his pellets... Should I offer some critical care?

i wouldnt be concerned about the pellets as of right now, see if you notice that he eats some through out the night or in the morning, and if he hasnt eaten, then id try the critical care. yay!! it sounds like he is doing good!!

I just went outside to take the receclying out and when I came back in he was munching on some pellets! YAY again! I'm such a nervous bunny mum! I have to work in the morning 8-1 and I'm nervous about leaving him... I can bring him to work with me but is it worth it to stress him out if he is eating a little bit?

no no no, the worst thing you could do is stress him out. and a nice quiet morning would be nice for him im sure, let him get good rest. remember he's not going to eat as much as he used to for a day or so, so give it a little while. if he decreases in his intake from here on out, then be concerned.

I guess I'll play it by ear in the morning. He has pooped some more since my last post. I'm going to make sure he has fresh water and fresh hay (he still has fresh pellets) and put him and kiwi to bed. I'll probably get up to check on him something in the early morning!

If he's bright and alert in the morning, he will stay home. If he's lethargic, he's coming with me. Let hope and pray that is not the case.

I got up with Papaya at 2am this morning just to check on him. He was resting comfortably. I'm up with him now as I have to go to work and he did poop a tiny bit more- about 6 new poops in his litter box. He also ate a little bit of pellets but still some left over. I had only given him half his normal amount of pellets and he ate half of those. Still not intrested in his pellets this morning. I gave him some yummy alpha hay and he ate a tiny bit of that. He nibbled on a bit of Timothy hay this morning- one tiny piece. I also did end up giving him some critical care last night, which he did eat. I will give him some more this morning too.

I'm going to start his metacam this morning. Maybe that will help with the eating. He dosent seem uncomfortable. He hops around and visits kiwi through the bars.

I'm going to leave him home this morning. Hopefully he is ok until I come back from work. I would really like to bring him with me but I don't think he needs any added stress right now.

Any advice or suggestions are welcomed!

glad to hear he's starting to improve! hopefully there will be an empty food bowl and a box full of poops waiting for you when you come home, silly as it seems to be wishing for poop :p

I am home now and he did do some more poops for me! YAY!! He's still not back to normal though. Again, he ate half of the half of the pellets I have him. All the critical care I gave him he ate. It looks like he was rummaging through his hay. He won't eat the hay in his hay rack so I also added hay just on the ground in his litter box. I can't say for certain how much hay he ate, if any.

I'm just so happy there was more poop! Hopefully he just keeps on improving. He loves the oats I give him. How much oats is safe for a bunny to eat??

good thing you kept him home, if he is hoping around, even a bit, thats GREAT! wait until you start noticing behaviour changes (if any) my bunny is a little cuddle bug since his neuter. hes calmed down alot, but still SO much fun. i feel like i can see more of his true personality since.

He hasent pooped since I got home around 130... I've seen him take a couple of bites of hay. I am worried. He is not acting lethargic though so I am puzzled by that.

Advise??

Ok so we have some poop. They are tiny poops but poop none the less. Again, not his normal amount. I've seen him munching on some hay (still not a lot) and he took like 3 pellets.

Questions I really need answered:

How much oats can I give him without hurting him? He really likes those.

And how often should I be giving him critical care? So far today he has had 2 spoonfuls. I am going to give him another spoonful before bed tonight. Just wondering if I should give him more?

Also, he has never had veggies before as I was told to wait till he was 6 months. Is it safe to introduce veggies now? He's not really drinking so I was hoping if he liked lettuce that would be a way to get water into him if I wet the lettuce down.

Please help!

I can't answer the first two questions, but I started feeding my bunnies veggies at 12 weeks since that's what House Rabbit Society recommends - they love them and are doing great :). just introduce them one at a time a few days apart.

Glad to hear Papaya is pooping :D

I wouldn't introduce him veggies while he's recovering. Wait until his tummy is settled and he's eating and drinking and pooping like normal. No need to rush.

I have actually never fed my buns oats, but I would give him no more than 2 teaspoons a day (basically like it's a treat). As long as he's eating SOME pellets and hay, you shouldn't have to worry too much. Have you ever given him pumpkin? Not pumpkin pie mix, just pureed pumpkin. It's high in fiber and will keep things moving. Sounds like the critical care is a good amount, though I haven't had to use that thankfully.

Sounds like you're taking good care of him! I'm sure he'll be well in no time!

Well Little Papaya finished his pellets last night! I gave him about 3/4 of what he normally eats and it's all gone : He ate all his critical
care and did rummage around on some hay! Most importantly, there was more poop!!!!! He went straight for more pellets this morning when I fed him and kiwi their breakfast! Hopefully by the time I come home from work, his pellets will be gone!

Regarding the oats, I probably gave him yesterday about a teaspoon full throughout the day. It's good to know I could give him more of needed!

Yay for Papaya!!
