So as my title says, Papaya is scheduled to be neutered on Thursday... I'm so nervous. The vet clinic I'm getting him done at I actually work at, so I'll be there all day with him. My vet specializes in bunnies so I know she's great and takes the proper precautions.

I'm just so scared after reading all these "post neuter complications" posts that something could happen...

I'm off all day Friday to stay home and monitor him all day, syringe fees of necessary...

I'm getting him done now because he has started spraying... And he humps kiwi like crazy (so I keep them separate), but I want to be able to bond them...

Please send good wishes to Papaya :)

I am going to be a train wreak until he's awake, eating, pooping and peeing...

Thank you for you warm thoughts!

Keep them coming please :)

aww, I'm sure he'll be ok... and hopefully it'll be easier for him than most because you'll be able to stop by and check on him/say hello throughout the day while he's at the vet :)

You should like a great bunny parent so I bet Papaya will be well taken care of. I still worry when one goes in for surgery, that will never go away.

Keep us posted.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your Papaya! I'm sure he'll do great! Surgeries are always nerve wracking no matter how many you've been through

:hug2:

Papaya is awake! He's still very quiet and hasent eaten yet, pooped or peed... He's on IV fluids still so that's positive. I will keep everyone posted!

Can you guys give me some tips on how to get him to eat? I am nervous about taking him home and him not eating for me. I have offered him some pellets, alpha and Timothy hay, and his pellets. Nothing yet.

Best wishes Papaya!! Mister bunny was neutered now 6 weeks ago, and he never had a problem! How lucky that you two get to be together during the day!! I wanted nothing more than for me to be the first person he seen when he woke up, i didnt have that privilage. It should bring you closer and your bond stronger! Im sure he will be okay, good luck!! keep us posted on how things turn out!

also, my vet did tell me to wait TWO weeks after neuter to introduce him to daisy which i later foudn out that i should have waited 4-6 weeks because she is now pregnant, and im so nervous. Id imagine she is due any day now, but she is a dwarf having rex kits, silly me. ugh.. stress!!

mister bunny took about 2-3 hours AFTER he woke up before he even looked at his food. but when he ate, he would nibble here and there for about the next day, until his diet was regular again. im sure you know this, keep an eye on his poop, make sure its not too dry due to dehydration. also, if it makes you feel more comfortable, pick up any poop in the cage, and write down the times of his next movment, this should tell you how well his digestive system is working, since we never want it to be empty!!

i also tempted him with his favorite treats, spinich, apples, and dandelion drops... if i throw all that in front of him he doesnt know what to do but EAT! lol try his favorite treats, but not too much since he probably wont be backing it up with hay or pellets, and we dont want him to have diarrhea

After Stevie got neutered last week, he wasn't interested in eating anything but oats until about 10 hours after surgery. He did drink quite a bit though. Make sure your bun has a bottle and a bowl to drink from.

I think they say he should be eating in 24 hours or that's a cause for concern.

Good Luck!

heh... if that's where you got the "two weeks" info from... let's just say, I'd be looking for another vet. even I already knew it took longer than 2 weeks and if I know more than a vet does about bunnies, that's bad news >

i'd say 99.9 percent of my knowledge of rabbits is from personal experience, and research , lol, after that vet told me to hold of on food and water before the surgery, i knew i would have to find out things on my own, which i have for the most part. the area i live in does not have ANY vets that are super familiar with rabbits, the only reason i went through with the neuter is because i asked how many surgeries had been done within the last year, and they gave me a number in the 30's, dont remember exact. and was told there were no fatalities. so that made me comfortable enough to go through with it, and of course after my 100 questions pre op, just to make sure the vet was doing the right thing, it made me feel better.

I just noticed in the other thread that your current vet is pretty much your only option :(

since you can't find a better vet, I strongly recommend that any time your vet tells you something, you run it past the folks here to see if it lines up with what our vets have said in similar situations - it's pretty rare for something to happen that at least one or two people here haven't dealt with :)

My vet has us send the food bunny is eating. I usually send pellets. They must eat some before bunny can come home. Females stay the better part of the day while males can be home in 4 hrs. Younger buns bounce back quicker than older buns. My buns were up & running in a fence within 24-72 hours. We then stay in the fence for 2 weeks.

Glad Papaya is awake. Here's to a speedy recovery!
