Hello, my lionhead bunny gave birth to a litter of one. It's now 10 days old and looking extremely fat. Could mummy be overfeeding it? It wiggles but can't really crawl anywhere. It's little legs are splayed out under it. What should I do? TIA!
That's good to hear thank you. Here's the little one...Baby is fine . I've never had a mama overfeed a baby. Singletons tend to be chunkier, because they don't have siblings to shove them away. If baby isn't making squeaks or seems uncomfortable, he's nice and healthy.
I would love to see a photo is you can!
Should i keep baby with me for most of the day and night and put him back with mum just to feed? You will need to keep a really close eye on it to make sure it starts being able to use its legs properly and doesn't start to develop splay leg because of the excess weight. If it were me, I would intervene right away before it gets too much older, by reducing the feedings(with caution) so it loses some weight. If it gets too much older and the condition isn't corrected and worsens, more drastic limb bracing may become necessary.
