Our family keeps chickens for there eggs. Mostly Americana and Buffs but in the coop among all these great big hens and our HUGE americana rooster was Lulu. A black silkie no bigger then a football but the boss of the whole coop. Lulu was a sweet hen who you could scoop up and hold anytime. She was a devoted and protective mother and hatched several chick every year. The eggs always came from the other hens but last summer we noticed a tiny black chick. Lulu had snuck her own
egg in with her the others and hatched a little black fluff ball. The only possible father was Clyde the huge americana six times Lulus size. That is how we ended up with Marvin our americana/silkie mix  Lulu was wonderful she was everyone's favorite girl. My father inlaw once picked up one of her chicks and she tried to get him with her feet. She flew at him and didn't even make it to his knee. She was so tough for being so small. Yesterday Lulu was found on her nest she had past away in the place were she had given life to so many chicks including Marvin. Our family is heartbroken over the sudden loss of this tough little girl who loved the grass and spent her days scratching and dust bathing. The coop won't be the same without "little Lulu"
