I posted this on the other post but then saw sick bunnies and thought I should post it under here. Sorry for posting twice.

Our bun always has poop stuck to her bottom. Her pellets in her litter box are normal but in the cage there are pieces that are smashed. They aren't runny or anything like that. So it isn't diarrhea. I am thinking she is sitting in it for awhile and it gets stuck to her and it gets all smashed. Has anyone else had this problem. I called the vet and they said as long as it isn't diarrhea it is okay. I think I will take her in to get checked anyways. Now I am wondering if it is the food we switched her to last year. She had this problem I think since she has been eating it but not too sure. She eats the pellets with the dried veggies. The veggies are colored pieces. When we feed her she only l eats the colored dried veggies and doesn't eat the plain pellets. Talk about a picky bunny. We do give her some parsley and a carrot once in awhile. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks

The colored pieces in the food are actually not good for her - they are like bunny candy and have no nutritional value - it's not anything healthy. She is better to eat ONLY the regular pellet pieces. I would remove all the colored pieces before you give her pellets and eventually switchher over to a Timothy based pellet that has no colorful bits.

She sounds like she is having excess Cecals - which could be a result of the pellets and the fact that she only eats the colorful pieces.

Cecals are a second kind of poop that are supposed to be eaten. They're soft and are usually shaped like a cluster of grapes. But if a rabbit is getting too much sugar/carbs or too much protein it can make a lot more cecals than they will eat and they're sometimes softer or even runny.

Definately switch to a plain pellet with no treats in it and limit the amount. 1/4 cup per 5 lbs of rabbit is average, although some rabbits will need more or less. Also, do you feed hay? She should have constant access to grass hay such as timothy.

Hi everyone.

I took Smokey to the vet on March 10th (last Saturday) and she has been doing so much betterwith the poo poo all over her butt since we changed her diet like I wrote about previously on here. She did have some poo poo stuck to her butt so the vet shaved her fur on her butt.Boy did he take a lot of fur off of her and then he checked her butt and said she was fine and we got her there in time before she had no infection which is great news. He also trimmed her nails. My daughter was sad cuz she wasn't there for her rabbit. But she was fine. A bit scarred but she did well. Thanks for all of your help

Thank you. Snuggy is so beautiful too. I love that picture. I just took a great pic of Smokey the other day. I have it on my wallpaper. I just love it.
