Opinions on future rabbit set-up?

Hi! This is going to be a lot, so please bear with me! I’m going to be getting a bunny in the beginning of November, and I’ve been looking online for quite a few supplies. This is going to be my first rabbit, and I want to be as prepared as possible. I was wondering if you could help me out and give me your opinions on these items, seeing as I’ve never owned a rabbit before could really use some help

So first thing’s first is I’m going to free-roam the bunny in my room. I do, however have a German Shepherd that sleeps in my room at night, so I was wondering if it would be okay to put the bunny in a dog kennel that is big enough to fit an adult Great Dane for about 6 hours every night? Or would it just be better to not let the dog in my room anymore? I’m going to put the kennel in my room either way as a little home-base for the bunny. It’s where its litter box, hideout, and toys are going to be stored.


Next thing is the supplies I’m ordering
(I attached them to this post, but I’m not sure where they’re going to be placed, so sorry about that) I have more chew toys added in my Petco shopping cart, but I figured those could probably be left out of this post. If any of these supplies aren’t safe for rabbits, or if you have any recommendations for any supplies, please let me know!

If you have any tips for bunny-proofing a room or for first-time rabbit owners, please give them to me! Thank you so much, and I appreciate your help!

I didn't see anything on there that would be a no go. I would suggest a bigger, at least one gallon, gravity water bowl. The bunny would be fine locked in a decent sized kennel for 6-8 hours a night if free roaming the rest of the day.

I find that if you have the room for it buying hay in bales is a whole lot cheaper on the wallet. Average hay bale price where I am is $5.

Yes, if possible, hay from a rancher/farmer is way less expensive. I'm allergic to Timothy hay and was able to buy some Barley hay from a local person for $6 for a roughly 70 pound bale that should last me around 6 months and as a bonus I am way less allergic to it. I had to wait until a day they were selling some to other people because they generally had a 10 bale minimum purchase to make it worth uncovering their stack but they were willing to work with me since I only had room for one.

That sounds like a great idea, but I’m not sure where I could keep it. Do places like that sell smaller sizes that could be easier to keep in a small house? Because $25 for 9lbs. is really gonna stack up expense-wise. It wouldn’t be hard to find a place that sales hay bales, seeing as I live in a relatively rural area. I could probably ask the guy who owns the horse pasture next to my house where he gets his hay.

Tractor supply has compressed 50 pound hay bales for around $18-$20, I haven't personally bought any but they don't take up a great deal of room. I've heard from several people that they are both great and bad, so shrug? And I've heard Chewy also has a large box of hay for $50 shipped that lasts a long time. I've only heard good things so far about that one and I know many people without access to farms or places to keep big bales use it as one of the cheaper options. But I haven't personally tried either.

If you can get two storage totes, a 50lbs bale can fit easily in them.

I have one of these at my grandmother's house, ( two of my rabbits are there) and it easily fits a half bale.

For litter, a cheaper option would be pine horse stall pellets comes in 40lbs bags for around $6 soaks urine and smell up wonderfully I swear by it. I get this at Rural King

Only thing I noticed was the brushes you got. Tbh I hated the ones like that, haha! Honestly the ones you find in the cat or dog grooming section are way better. (But I also have a long-haired breed, so I do a LOT of grooming.)

^Agreed!^ Cat brushes are way better. I've got a lionhead and all the small pet brushes seem to be crummy.

I use a flea brush with a rubber band weaved through for molts. I think it is like a furbuster or something like that.
