I'm just so upset and I'm thinking there isn'tanything I can do. I'm currently living with my mom whileShawn and I house hunt, so all my critters are here too. Theneighbor is really unstable and has been causing problems for my mom'sboyfriend for years. He always causes problems andantagonizes Harley (my11 mon. old lab/rottie). Hesits in his truck and revs the engine and yells at Harley when he isoutside, so Harley barks at him. Now Harley is totallycontrolled. He is chained on a cord for my mom's 212 lb greatdane, so he can't even get near this guy's property. Wheneverhe barks, we immediately bring him inside. About a month ago,Harley started to bark, so I went outside to get him and the neighborwas screaming at him. When he saw me, he said "I'll kill that(nasty exploitive) dog. I'll kill you and your (nastyexploitive) dog." Had I been thinking clearly, I would havecalled the police immediately to report that he had threatened me, butI didn't (although I'm not sure it would do any good because rumor hasit he is a CI for the local cops). Nothing has happened sincethen, so I thought he was just blowing off steam and that was thegeneral consensus with my family.

Today, Harley was out and I heard the neighbor reving his engine andHarley start to bark, so I came downstairs to get him. When Iwent out the door, the neighbor was charging at my yard with a hammerin his hand screaming at Harley that he was going to killhim. Even when he saw me, he kept coming. I thinkthe only thing that stopped him was when Harley saw me he bared histeeth and growled at the neighbor. He continued screaming, only at me about how he hated that (exploitive) dog and he was going tokill him. He then went into his house yelling all the way.

I don't know what to do. I'm afraid to let Harley out (when Iwas little we had a dog poisoned with a steak and rat poison and Iwouldn't put something like that past this guy). I'm actuallya little afraid to stay here by myself when my mom works nights, andI'm not the type to just be afraid of being alone. There is no doubt in my mind that if I had not come out when I did, hewould have hurt Harley. I also don't doubt Harley would havebitten him. Now, Harley wouldn't normally hurt a fly, but ifhe felt threatened, it would probably be a different story.Being in the pet business, I know the laws fairly well, and as long asHarley is controlled and on his own property, nothing could be done tohim for biting the neighbor, but I'm concerned that the neighbor willjust kill him.I have to do something, I can'tcontinue to put up with these threats and I WILL NOT live infear. He yells that he hates Harley's barking, but he has 2outside dogs who bark whenever he comes and goes and whenever we walkout our door, so I just don't understand.

Sorry this is so long, I'm just so frustrated and upset.

I would definatly report this guy to the police, at least if nothing else they have a report on the guy.

I had a nieghbour much the same. We always had bull terriers and rottisgroing up, and our nieghbour would threaten them as well. We alwaysreported EVERYTHING! If they don't come the first time report himagain, soon they will get the picture that this guy's unstable, andalso mention you don't feel safe alone at night with him next door.

Let them know about him reving his engine, threatning you and your dog.Our nieghbour was charged. With what I can't remember now but Iremember m mum saying that he was.

So sorr about this, some people in this world eh?:X

Call the ASPCA and The police immediately!

You tell them how he's threatened you and the dog.

The dog is on your (mom's) property and barking is only when he'smaking a bunch of noise also, so he can't complain about the noise.

Tell them he actually came onto the property yielding a weapon (hammer).

Tell them you are frightened and you cannot even sleep worrying that hemight harm some of you... you aren't sure what he will do.

If the police don't do something..... go to the prosecutor's office tomorrow and file a complaint yourself.

yeah yah gotta report him! thats aweful! and eventhough im 17, if he would have done that to any of my animals i wouldbeen yelling back with that dude and doing anything and everythingPoss. to get that guy mad! i dont think when somthing like that happensto me! lol.. GOODLUCK with that nasty neighbor!

I spoke to a friend who is an ADA inPittsburgh. He said I needed to report everything, that theyprobably won't do anything, but that way if he does anything else, theyhave a record. I called and have to go file a report tomorrow.

Shawn is driving up, despite the fact that he will have to leave at5:30, I leave at 7:00, so I'm not worried about tonight. Italked to my assistant manager and he is going to cover for me for acouple of hours tomorrow so I can come back and go to the policestation.

I'm also going to contact the SPCA tomorrow, just for good measure.

He is a nutcase, but unfortunately there are lots of people like him.

This is my Harley. It was take 6 monago when he was just a baby, but who amI kidding, he is stilla spoiled baby...he still, at almost 100 lbs. sits on my lap.LOL I don't have any more current on the computer, because mydigital camera was MIA for a while. I'll have to try to get anew one of him.

You know, people like this guy are just ... they must be miserable!

Our dog (lab) is very loud and barks when our neighbors cut thegrass. She's been out back (which is her choosing she doesn'twant to be inside...... well, sometimes.. lol) since she was a yearold. She's 12. They've been the same neighbors theentire time.

Yes, the neighbor lady is a bit scared that she would bite her if shecould get to her (fenced) but she can't.... and do they complain? No,they told me they appreciate her so much because she's so quiet atnight UNLESS someone goes out to their pond directly behind ourproperty. She will go ape!

We have deer and all sorts of animals that go up there..... but shedoesn't bark at them..... just people. I would guess she'sprobably kept a couple of teens from getting drunk and falling in thepond at night... Lord knows there've been a couple dozen chased out ofthere thanks to her! lol.

Anyhow, this guy sees the world in negative ways...... which is justsad and pathetic. I'd much rather see the positive.... No oneis going to bug his truck or anything when Harley is out there.... heshould like that!

Yes, by all means, file a report with the police and get a copy you can keep.

And contact the SPCA to let them know about this guy. They have a listas big as a phonebook that has records about all the undesirables thatare reported to them.

Keep a camera handy in case you catch him doing something stupid, again. Take a picture or a video of the incident and give a copy to thepolice when you file the report. That kind of evidence can turn acomplaint into a summons.

We have a similar situation going on. We fostered and then adopted an11 year old shepherd/collie mix that had been picked up as a stray. Some very kind people found her eating garbage on the street, took herhome, cleaned her up, and handed her over to the no-kill rescue nearus. She doesn't get around too well anymore, but still needs exerciseto keep her joints working, so we take her a on several short walksduring the day and evening.

The guy around the corner from us has problems with everybody in theneighborhood for all kinds of reasons...one is that he hates dogs. Evenif you just walk by he will harass us. This happens even if we are onthe other side of the street.

He had the nerve to spit on my daughter one afternoon when she waswalking the dog past his house. We called the police and they came andsaid that they would file a report about it. A couple of months laterwe had more problems with him harassing my wife and my other daughter, and when we mentioned that there had been a report filed....it hadmysteriously disappeared from the records. So make sure you get a copyof the report !!! I should have just beat the crap out of him and wewouldn't have had any more problems. OOOpps...did I say that??

The police's solution was to not walk the dog by his house. Howeverthey can't enforce that if there is no restraining order. We have to gointo the next town (we live on the boarder of our town and the next) toavoid walking past his house, but everybody in the next town over lovesour doggie. They talk to her and pet her and ask all kinds of questionsabout her. I think I moved into the wrong town maybe!!

I've heard that dogs are allowed to bark outsideon their property for up to half an hour...if there is continuousbarking after that, they are allowed to call the police (which hashappened to me)...but the half hour rule might vary from state tostate...

I'm so sorry you have to face this problem...if the police dept saysthey won't do anything, I would suggest getting on their butts untilthey do something! They have got to protect you, it's theirjob!! You are doing nothing wrong...whenever your dog barks, you bring him in...so this is totally not your fault!

I bet your pup can definitely sense this man is E-V-I-L!! Good luck!

-Vanessa

EDIT: one time my dad was riding his bike and a dog ran offof its property and bit my dad on the leg!!! I think we fileda report or something, and the owners had to get a fence...

Report the bugger!! Your dog is in his own yard, people cannot justcome on to your property and threaten you or your animals or damageyour property.

You are entitled to live a happy peaceful life.

I don't know what your laws are but here it's called trespassing if youenter someones yard without permission, and to threaten an animal isjust down right wrong.

goodluck with it all, and keep on reporting him if you have to.
