Hello all,

You were so helpful and comforting when my doe, Poppy, struggled after her spay op but she eventually came through the other side and is now seemingly healthy and happy. She recently had her first flystrike treatment of the season at the vet and a check up, weight was fine etc.

Since her spay she has finally potty trained (thank goodness!!). She’s peeing and pooping normally though sometime has soft poop overnight (not runny / very liquid but not cacetropes either). She’s now 100% free roaming and seems happy, binkying away and snoozing near us etc - though still not a cuddler!

Here’s my issue: she has never been particularly fond of eating hay and still either nibbles a little bit or ignores it completely. I’m changing her Timothy hay twice a day and peppering it with a tiny amount of herb mix for smell and interest. She most certainly isn’t eating a ball of hay the size or herself each day!! I’ve reduced her nuggets and veggies a fair bit to try to ‘force’ her to her hay but I’m anxious about her not eating enough of anything and her having tummy issues. What would your recommendations be?

Thanks in advance!

try switching up the hay, some buns prefer orchard grass over timothy hay (like my bun)
or try mixing in "treat hay" such as 3rd cut timothy hay or oat hay

Have you tried any other types of hay? Also her weight?

I’ve tried a huge variety of different hays, it doesn’t seem to make any difference.

Veggie wise she gets a selection that includes a rotation of spring greens, a little bit of kale, dark Nero cabbage, some herbs like parsley, mint, basil.

Weight is good, vet has no concerns about her.

Pellets - daily she gets about a tea cup sized portion, maybe a little less... I’ve even tried sprinkling her nuggets over hay but she just ferrets them out and flings the hay everywhere in the process.
