Our oldest is 8 now.

The past few month he has been sneezing. poor thing.

We took him to the vets and they gave us some antibiotics. a little better but no not much.

took him back. new, different meds.. much better. temporarily. hes started sneezing again.

with the last lot of meds they gave us some tablits to put in water to give him a steam room, vapor type treatment like we might do if we had a cold (sorry i dont know the term in English) but failed to explain how to get a rabbit to willingly do it though. Do you have some advice on how we could do this?

Also could i carefully use a babys nose vaccum (the bulb kind) on my bun?

Then, do you speak French? I have a good article about that problem but it hasn't been translated. Anyway, for your vapor treatment the best is to put the rabbit in a pet carrier, to put a bowl full of hot water with the tablet in it in front of the cage (which is closed!) and to cover the cage and bowl with a towel. I don't know about the baby nose vaccuum. I would be scared to really stress the bunny out...

I am English but have lived in France with my French family for years. I couldnt remember the term.. still cant to be honest ! it happens alot :foreheadsmack:

I recieved a rabbit from a breeder and when it arrived at my house it was sneezing. And it got worse quickly, he soon started sneezing white snot out of his nose, so he had a very bad infection.

I took him to a vet and got an antibiotic that made it a lot better after three days- but on day 9 he started sneezing again— so that antibiotic didn't work.

Went back to the vet and he gave me a second antibiotic— and it didn't work.

So I went on a rabbit facebook forum in may country - New Zealand - and asked for the name of the best rabbit Vets in the country. I found a specialist Rabbit Vet who was from the UK and had bred and shown bunnies as a child.

So I went to the best Rabbit Vet in the country. She gave me Azithromycin/Zythromax by Pjizer. It was a childrens antibiotic and I had to get it from the pharmacy.

The rabbit got better after three days on the Azithromycin/Zythromax and he never got sick again. Now he is 5 years old.

... some say Zythromax has caused gut issues with rabbits but since that first rabbit I have treated two other bunnies with Zythromax— and a friend of mine also treated hers with Zythromax-- so four bunnies treated with Zythromax- and none of them had any problem with gut issues and they all were cured.

So if you can get a vet to perscribe it I reccomend Zythromax/azithromycin pfizer.

I was born and raised in Paris but I've recently moved near Tours. I know Normandie pretty well though, my father's family is from Le Havre and I travel quite a lot for work - I'm going to Evreux for a week in a few months ^^.
La dure vie du lapin urbain is a pretty good reference for rabbits. In French, it's probably the best you can find and the woman who created the association encountered a lot of different issues with her rabbits so she often has good insight about things - they have a useful vet list too. The association has a magazine called Tap tap which you can receive for free on your email if you suscribe to it and it generally tackles a lot of subjects related to managing illnesses or old rabbits... This and the House rabbit society website are my go to whenever I have a rabbit related issue. ^^
