Well hi y'all!! Im new to this and have had these guys for only about a week my husband and i live in Las Vegas Nevada we have three kids two dogs 10 chickens and now 4 rabbits,
whew that just makes you wanna take a nap just typing all that lol.
well my story starts at one sunny day going to buy some chicks from a guy across town and seeing his neighbor holding a bunny by the ears and him asking me if i wanted "meat rabbit?"
once i asked him what are you going to do to those bunny's he replied "no bunny only meat rabbit. you know kill them and eat, meat rabbit." so needless to say I bought all 4 he had out there and refused when he offered a free kill and clean. my husband who is super wonderful has built them a play yard and I found out one of my neighbors is a master builder of bunny homes lol and payed him in beer to make 4 cute cottage like houses for them.
Now ive been dealing with the fact that not one of them is used to being handled so ive been scratched, bit, and peed on ALOT lol but hey no biggie.
So we have 2 Californians and i do apologize for the crude humor but we couldn't help it lol our male Californian is named meat and our female is potatoes. we also have two Rex ones but i have a feeling one is a mixed breed of Rex, a black and white one named Oreo and a pure black one (again im so sorry our daughter named her) Shanequa. Oreo looks younger then the others and has a bond with the other Rex and the Californians have a bond between them as well.
so far so good now to treat the sore feet and get them used to us all then it will be the best life ever for these guys!
I am so glad i found you guys and will be posting news on the "meat rabbits" turned BUNNY!! soon. have a great day and thanks for having us join!!

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will enjoy them as pets, but it may take quite some time to learn that some humans can be trusted not to hold them by the ears etc. I think I've seen somewhere that rabbits can get pregnant at only about 3 months, so you'll need to do something soon or you'll be really busy.

thanks for the welcome and it just looks painful holding them that way ill stick to the lifting them up and suffering a few scratches till they are on the towel in my lap, sure they hurt but again they aren't doing it as much and i think they are starting to like lap time all the petting and treats lol ive been giving them alfalfa, timothy, spinach, bok-choy, carrots(oddly not one of there favs)and some of those yogurt treats. they have an appt on wed. to undergo the snip of man hood forever lol the girls im also getting fixed because what if they got out one day and joe smoe down the street has a boy bunny thats feeling a little lonely?:lookaround but for now there are 4 cages and a separated yard for them so i think they will be all good but if i put Meat near Shaniqwa she starts making funky noises but when shes by Oreo shes calm so im guessing they bonded? and same with Potatoes and Oreo but as soon as Potatoes is by meat she calms right down?? bonded? but i figgured even a bonded pair need there own place to call home and the cages do that for them

and P.S. the nails are now all trimed and wow do they keep cleaning there paws like i took there gold away! lol i didnt trim them too short because i was scared but hey ill ask the vet if i did ok for my first time

Sounds like you got it all well in hand. And keeping them separate they will bond to you, making it so much easier to handle and gain their trust.

They have built a relationship between each other, now that they are separate they will look to you and build that relationship. All my bunnies live separately and they have all bonded to me and my husband. Very sweet, calming relationship.

One thing you will see in the near future, is that all bunnies are individuals and if treated that way have a very lively and healthy life. With their Humans.

Have fun. Take your time. Purchase a pair of gloves. It does help a lot.

It all sounds good except probably the yogurt treats should go. Most rabbits like craisins, apple slices, &/or banana. I wash a banana before I peel it, cut the peel in pieces, let them dry, & give as treats. You'll probably want to check out the library section for more information.
Picking them up the way you would a cat or small dog can minimize scratching, but I'm glad to hear they're calming down a little.

lol, once they used to being picked up like a cat or small dog, then the scratches will be minimized. Until then I'd invest in some cheap gloves. Stops the scratches and will also give you confidence in handling.

Actually from experience with my tans an old bigger sweatshirt or longsleeve works wonders. It also helps to have a layer under that. Congrats on your new bunnies! Pictures of your buns and chickens are always welcome!

thanks all and i dont mind the scraches i only have three today so thats mega improvement lol poor things are like isnt it someone elses turn for cuddle time i swear i see them roll there eyes as i walk up lol but ill cut out the yogurt (those smelled funny anyway) and guess what lol they dig them some apple slices did those today and wow potatoes even stood up on her hind feet to reach another slice! i have some banna slices on the counter now i think i did it right but lol i am probably wrong sooooo help me out here please i just cut them into little round slices peel and all is that ok or do i peel them then cut up just the peel and i eat the banana? because my daughter is fine with that one she LOVES bananas! and thats one thing i thought was super cute the kids are feedin g them apple slices and doing the whole one for you one for me thing lol thank god i sliced thin and lots lol :thumbup

Potatoes are no-nos, along with onion & garlic.

I, too, am fine with eating the banana & giving honey the peel. Even the whole peel is too much to give at once, even 1/4 to each of the 4, which is why I cut it into strips & dry it. But if you eat lots of banana, just throw away all but a few bits. We love to give them treats, but they do need their pellets & greens.

I would like to welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

Many bunnies’ recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

My bunny's are craisin and banana chip addicts! If I am late getting their treats to them at night I hear massive thumping coming from their room!

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.
