I am interested in purchasing some bunnies in the near future. I had bunnies as a child, but wasn't their sole care taker. I need/want to learn everything I can about the care and management of bunnies before I go purchase some.

I'm mainly interested in larger breeds, and especially the lop eared ones. I don't know much about the different breeds yet ... but want to learn. I especially like the French Lops. I love the Holland Lops, but think they're to small for my taste.

I hope that being a member of this forum will help me to learn the things that I need to know about bunnies. I would like to get some good bunnies to breed in the future (if all goes well with those plans). So I have ALOT to learn (care & management, breeding, kit care, marketing & sales) and have tons of questions. But I think this forum will be just what I need :) I already emailed a breeder in my area asking her to mentor me. So I hope to hear back from her soon as well.

As for WHO I AM - I'm Julie from Southern PA. I currently have 14 goats, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 1 pony & 3 rescued baby bunnies (wild). I am an animal lover, and have a 4 yr old daughter who's following in my footsteps.

Welcome Julie! Don't know where you are in southern PA, but I am located in Lancaster County. Good to have another Pennsylvanian among the RO family.

We currently have 3 Holland Lops and a Mini Rex. Holland Lops are small, but not tiny. As adults they usually weigh in somewhere just under 5 lbs. They've got great personalities (at least the ones we've had).

Sounds like you are doing the right thing by investigating and gathering lots of knowledge before you choose the rabbits that are right for your family.

Everyone here on the forum is very friendly and helpful. Just ask any questions and someone will be happy to share their experience or point you in the right direction to get answers.

Looking forward to getting to know you!

Hello & Welcome!! :)You've come to the right place to find lots of information on all different kinds of bunnies and tons of helpful information... and fun stuff too :pI run a Sanctuary for special needs and abandoned buns and have all different breeds, from Dwarf rabbits to Flemish Giants, they all have special qualities and unique personalities. It's so great of you to do your research first. You'll be a great bunny guardian!

What kind of goats do you have? I love goaties!! I havea Nigerian and a Pygmy currently but have had Nubians before too. They are SO much fun :biggrin2:

Hi and Welcome to RO! Is that a cute little mouse in your photo? Tons of info on here along with Tons of great people who know alot.. Welcome and can't wait to the photos!

Welcome! :D

It's great that you are willing to learn, a breath of fresh air! Breeding can be quite complex and challenging as you know, so definitely a good idea to be very familiar and have knowledge before considering breeding. A lot of people just jump into it without knowing exactly what they are getting into :). You are doing a great job doing your research!

French lops are wonderful.. my boy Bruno is a french lop, and is quite the big boy! He can be quite a handful since he can throw major tantrums and is fearless. He's the only french lop I've gotten to know well, but he's a wonderfulguy! Doesn't hurt to check out other breeds too, since even the smaller/medium ones can be jam packed FULL of personality and quirks! :D

I'm glad you joined this forum, if you ever need anything or help, feel free to drop me a PM! :D

Hahaha ! No - that's a newborn wild baby bunny that I rescued. I currently have 3 living that I rescued, they finally have their eyes open ... they're SOOOOOOO cute ! I will have to change my avator to an updated pic - that avator pic is when it was only a few days old.

I'm in Somerset County ... a few hours from Lancaster :)

:welcome1to the forum! This is a great forum as I am sure you have discovered by now, friendly people with loads of experience and knowledge. I have 15 indoor bunnies of 9 different breeds. From Netherland Dwarf to Flemish Giants along with 15 different personalities and I love them all.

If your not sure of what breed you want, I would like to suggest contacting your local 4-H rabbit club. Someone there I am sure will be more then happy to invite you to a club meeting where you can see many of the different breeds.

Another good place to go is to a American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) show. Here is there website www.arba.net there is a section where you can search for a show near you. Usually at a ARBA show you will get to see all varieties from the smallest to the largest. There will be breedersto ask questions from about the rabbits they breed and certified ARBA judges that can help answer any questions as well. You canalso find out aboutthe care requirements of a particularbreed you may be interested in.

I look forward to hearing about the breed you choose and pictures of your bunny.
