Hi everyone! I'm a new bunny mom from Maine. I had been wanting a rabbit for quite a long time now, and my bf and I had talked about it here and there. My Birthday is in about a week, and I was out of the country last week. While I was gone, my bf decided to get me a bunny for my birthday. He went to look at some that were for sale the day before I came home, planning to just take a look and bring me over the next day to pick one out. Well, he came home with one. He said the conditions they were kept in were horrible and he just couldn't leave this one there. Normally I would not purchase an animal from such a place, because it encourages those awful people to keep breeding :( BUT! I'm so glad he took this bunny!!

"Loki" as he is now named, hid until I arrived home. My bf lifted his hiding place so I could see him. He looked so scared. I very gently slid my hands under him so he was standing on them, and transported him to my chest, where I rubbed his head. At no point did he object to any of this and he seemed to really enjoy being patted. He'd had no human interaction from his "breeder" at all. I guess from then on he decided I was his hero, and he has come out of hiding, following me around, doing binkies and flopping all over the place, and just generally acting like a very happy rabbit. He *loves* being rubbed on his cheeks and around his ears, and will happily fall asleep while I do that to him. I can't believe how far he has come in only 3 days! I don't think I've ever felt such a connection to an animal before. I really, really love this funny rabbit!

I will post more pics in the picture section, but thought it would be ok to add a couple here as a reward for reading this ridiculously long post, lol...

Those are really beautiful photos, and Loki is so adorable :) Congratulations on getting him. :) Were the conditions that he was kept in so bad that your boyfriend could call Animal Services on the breeder? I'd just hate to think of them breeding more rabbits in a terrible environment.

In any case, I'm glad that you have that little sweetheart. He obviously is very happy with his new mommy!

Sooo adorable! I wanna snuggle into his little face!!

Agreed on the ears and facelooking like mini lop, so he'll be a bit bigger than you anticipated, but likely nothing huge. (so long as he isn't a french lop!)

Edit: Also you clearly have a gorgeous camera, and know how to use it. Wonderful pictures.... Post moooore!

Thanks guys!! I thought he looked a bit like a mini lop, or even like he might have English lop in his lines somewhere. His ears are ridiculously long for a holland and he doesn't have the face that I've seen on Hollands or Minis. My bf did see his parents, though, (or at least he saw all of the older bunnies there...who knows who was who) and he said they were all "smallish" lol. Then again, they could all just have been stunted by the conditions. It doesn't matter to me. I only wanted a holland because I had heard such good things about their personalities, but beyond that, it really makes no difference :) I figure he's either a really horribly bred Holland, or some sort of mix.

Unfortunately, it's so common to have really bad "backyard breeders" of all different kinds of animals here, where the animals are kept in very small cages, outside, with no real shelter. It's hard to get anyone to do anything about it. Normally those people sell all their animals quickly and rather cheap, to the parents who decide to get their kid an animal for a holiday present, to be forgotten in a few weeks :( Maybe Chris (my bf) will call it in anyway, but it's very unlikely that anything will be done. He said the cages for the adults were so small that they could hardly move :( Loki was the runt, and every time he would stand up, Chris said he would be trampled back down by the other 18 baby bunnies in the cage. I can't believe how well he has adjusted.

Glad you all liked the pics! I will post some more in the picture section :)
