Hi everyone

Decided to get 2 mini rex rabbits. Owner said they were 5 months old, both males, she said she just keeps there bowl topped up but surely they have like a guidline of how much rabbits eat per day so they do get rather large!

What is best amount to feed them, they look fully grown to me, I havent had rabbits since my younger years. Introducing my daughter (2.5 yrs old) to them.

They come with large bag of pellets which she said they have always been fed on.

Any suggestions on best food, snacks and amount of food

Thanks

You can free fed til they get to six months and then follow the amount per pound on the feed bag. They also need unlimited hay and there are many varieties to be found--due to allergies we use orchard grass. They are also old enough to be given fresh veggies and there are several places here with listings of what is good for them. Sound like they are at the age when you need to think about neutering also. I'd say to check with rescues in your area and a good rabbit savvy vet and you can get all the info and help you'll need.

:yeahthat:

Free feed until 6 months. After that a general guideline is 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup per 6 lbs.

Hay is most important though. They need unlimited access.

Veggies introduce slowly and one at a time so you know if it causes any intestinal issues.

Are they brothers? Been together since birth? I agree with larry to look into neutering. Although possible, it's not very likely that two unneutered males will stay friendly towards each other. Sexual maturity will bring on hormones that can cause fighting. Rabbit fights can be very serious and can happen all of a sudden. If you are planning on caging them seperate then it's not a big deal, but if they are bonded and you want to keep it that way I would highly recommend neutering.
