I just adopted a beautiful mini rex buck(dusk) and this is def. NOT my first rabbit. But I am absolutely infatuated with the giant breeds, and am speaking to a few people about either giant flemish or a giant chinchilla? what are some of your experiences/opinions on the breed?

Funny, I just posted elsewhere about how I always wanted a Flemish Giant. I too have had many rabbits (rescues) over the years. I do like big rabbits!

I was trying to figure out if I could get one in addition to my current pair of mixes. They are both still young (1 1/2 yrs) and I don't know if I want to wait til they're gone. Figuring out how to work it out logistically though... :?

Curious to see what other have to say.

I have a mini rex, and will be rescuing another mini rex next week. and POSSIBLY TWO flemish giants! But I have a huge sun room for all the furbabies and a HUGE shed that is currently under bunny construction...so if they can be bonded(carefully and over time) GREAT! if not, then I will have more than enough speace(and love ;) ) for all of them!

We have a giant Chin and he's quite a handful. We have a Checkered Giant that almost 19 pounds--very active and very sweet, lap bunny.

I had read that checkered Giants tend to be aggressive. Sounds like that may not be true...

Is your checkered giant more slim and athletic-looking than the Chin?

I have a bunny who I believe is a checkered flemish mix. He looks like the checkered. He was sold as a flemish giant, I figured by his markings that he was mixed with something with a spotted pattern. When I figured out it was checkered, I was a little worried, because of the reputation. I did research and most of the people who were saying they were aggressive, didn't actually have them, they just go by what they have heard. He's not a cuddle bunny, but he is friendly, and not at all aggressive. He doesn't love being petted, but he follows me around and doesn't struggle when I pick him up. He's just a baby though, we'll just have to wait and see what he's like when he grows up.

I just adopted a french lop and she's a sweetie! I tried to give her a piece of kale last night and she didn't want it but pushed her head into my hand to get me to pet her. I know that's a pushy thing, and my dog wouldn't have gotten away with it, but it was just so cute :).

I've always read that larger buns are more laid back. My Atticus is an English Lop (10ish pounds) and he's a floppy bunny.

I've read that Checkereds can be feisty, but I have no personal experience. Chins are very uncommon in my area. Don't lose hope though if that's what you want! :)

I love Flemies. I've never had one but their ears and from what I've seen of their personalities they are always big hits, hehe.

I want to own a Flemish one day, and I will! Right now is not ideal, I have 5 rabbits.. so whenever I dont have 5 rabbits or I have more space i'll get a Flem.. which ever comes first! lol

I have a Flemish giant. :) Fun rabbit to have, but she is the first rabbit I've ever gotten who was young. 11-weeks, most of mine were rescues and older. But so far. She is the most laid back rabbit I have EVER had. Ever. o-o Except for my Cali, he was pretty relaxed. She eats more, I have to say that. Poops more. I can't really say anything on the breed, she is still too young and hasn't hit maturity. But so far. Sweet, VERY smart! (At 7 weeks, she knew how to stand on command and come.) She now knows how to take treats from between my lips. Very very smart. She hasn't been much of a chewer yet, except a cord if she gets behind are cord blocks. She isn't very skittish like some bunnies I've seen. She is pretty darn big. I do have a picture of me and her. Compare her size to me (5'5'' 100) She is very big, and only 9-10 weeks in the picture.

I wish I could tell you more about having one, but she is too young to truly grasp her personality yet, especially having not reached maturity yet.

Our Checkered is just "BIG", not quite as well rounded as our Chin boy. She's fairly long when compared to a New Zealand. She loves to be held and carried around, loves to be rubbed, and is an all around cuddle bunny. Personalty wise, she's more like a lap dog. However, she doesn't care for any other bunny we have--that's the only thing aggressive about her other than her love of food, treats, and veggies.
