So my Mini Lop doe, Harmony, is definitley pregnant. She is due in two or three days. It's her first litter. Well I gave her a nesting box, lined it with shavings (the rest of her cage is also lined with shavings) & then I gave her hay/straw for the nest. She sits there and eats it all rather than building a nest.

Will she build a nest last minute?

:expressionless

All does are different. The litter of thriantas just born went like this: Put the box in 4 days before she was due...she just munched on all the hay every day. Sometimes she carried it around in her mouth. I went outside on her due date and was sad becuase there was nothing inside and she didn't seem like she was gonna have them anytime soon. Then I went out again about 30 minutes later....a nest box full of fur with 6 babies inside. lol

So it just depends on the doe. One wooly doe usually pulls fur day early in the day. Then has the babies later in the afternoon. One pulled it about 10 minutes before she had them. Another the day before.

Thank you Briana, I wrote this post while I was at school. I will run out and check now if she did anything :p I have never had a doe make a last minute nest. But your post makes me not worry so much lol Thanks !

My does use to ALWAYS nest last minute. I never had an indication if they planned to raise the babies before hand, unlike my friend who's does ALWAYS nested 4 days before. But this year it seems like almost everyone is working in their box 1-4 days before. I am not use to this ;)

I have an question about this... My aunt haves an Flemish Gaint that is due I believe March 29th. She pulled out her fur and made an nest but no babies.. I heard some does can do this weeks before or the day of the due date??

My Lionhead nest the day of her due date. 1-3 hrs before she had the babies! But she did a great nesting. Made an borrow and made a circle in the borrow and had them in the circle and covered them with fur and then pushed the straw back over the hole to get by the babies! So no wind cant get to them..

My doe is due tomorrow and she is nesting right now.
My lionhead doe waited until she was having them to make her nest lol

Well I'm at school and I loaded her cage with hay last night. So I will check and see if she did anything. I hope she did. I won't be home this weekend :/ So I hope everything goes okay. My dad will be keeping an eye on her :p

Around day 20 of a supposed pregnancy, a doe can exhibit the symptoms of a false pregnancy -- building a nest and pulling fur. If she has a false pregnancy, she will not be delivering kits in another ten to eleven days. . .
