Nest box size

What size nesting box is sufficient for holland lops? I have 21 in boxes but when I tried to get additional they only had the size down 14in, what size do you use? Thank you

Have you used that size for hollands that's half the size I've used.

yes. it works perfectly for most. Some need a bit smaller.

THIS is a good box that I use, make sure to get the small size. A good rule of thumb is to get a box that is large enough for the doe to do a full 360°, but small enough for the babies not to wander away from each other. I have used this box for kindling does weighing anywhere between 2.5-5.5 lbs.

that's 16 inches deep! That's as long as what a large breed rabbit uses. Seriously... they only need it to be 10 inches long. sit your holland lop in a box, add one inch all around. long boxes encourage does to foul the box OR sit in the box and smother them.

For those who cannot make their own from scratch, which brand / type of box on the market do you recommend? This is the best one out there in my opinion It IS long, but much better for bigger does to nurse in - but still quite small, I'll have to measure mine, but I believe the 16-in is for the medium or large size, not the small size I suggested.

This one is very similar to the kind we used. I liked the ones with a small roof on the back part. It allowed the kits to snuggle in the back without the doe stepping on them. Our Tans were about 4-5 pounds and we used boxes with 14-15” depth, keeping in mind the doe doesn’t normally go to the back, under the roof. The roof also allowed the doe to get away from youngsters who wouldn’t stop trying to nurse.
