My Rabbit is about 8 months old and has been very healthy since I got her. I noticed today that she hasn't eaten anything since yesterday morning (except for her carrot she got as a treat last night) and her stool is very small and looks dried out. She also has some mucus-like stuff on her bottom when her playtime was over. Other than this she is acting normal but I'm worried about it since tomorrow is Sunday and I won't be able to get her to the vet until Monday, assuming she needs to go. Any advice?

No matter what the problem is, you should give her fluids. I give mine diluted carrot or grape juice or something she'll lap right up (although go easy on the sugary stuff) or at least take from a syringe, or some Pedialyte bought from the store.

Does she seem uncomfortable? Pressing her tummy to the floor, anything like that?

I think the mucus is usually a sign of some sort of intestinal distress, definitely keep a close eye on her.

Where do you live?

PS: did you mean to say her poops are small and shrivelled? Is she stiill pooping?

Unfortunately acting normal is normal even for a sick bunny, they hide their illnesses. Just really keep her hydrated (is she drinking on her own?) andtry coaxing her to eat. Try hand eeding her parsley, people seem to have luck with that -- theyget mad that you'resticking it near their mouth, they grab it to throw it and realize it doesn't taste so bad so they eat it. (Silly bunnies!).

Canned pumpkin is a good thing to give her right away as well. It's moist and fiberous. I'm not sure where you are, though, it's not easy to find it in the UK.

You may have to start syringe feeding her soon, 24 hours without food is a concern. Some can go days, but after even 12 hours, it's a pretty big concern, and 24 hours without poops is considered urgent(if not critical).Seeminly minor problems like appetite loss can quickly lead to major problems like GI Stasis.

And unless you know they have a bunny-savvy emergency vet, probably not worth taking her into an animal ER unless she gets lethargic or you can't get her to drink and she needs a SubQ (under the skin) hydration, they rarely know anything about bunnies.

It may just be a matter of fluffing up those poops with liquids and fiber and the mucus a self-lubricating reaction from her body, but it may be wise to get her poop tested when the vet re-opens.

It may also just be that she had too many treats or carbs and her system isout of whack (or she could even have a dental issue)but that too can lead to a serious case of GI stasis. You really have to make sure you nip it in the bud.

Great stuff. Just make sure you aggressively treat her at home untilthen. I meant to say that 12 hours without eating was a concern, 24 hours is alarming. :(

Good News...I got her to eat some hay last night and this morning. She's also been drinking pedialyte so hopefully she'll be alright. When I get home from work tonight I'll check her poops and see if anything is back to normal. *cross fingers*
