I know it doesn't sound close to home or anything, but this was such a special dog. My aunt got her when I was still in college. Every time I went to visit, I would teach Lily a new trick...shaking hands, rolling over, sitting up, etc. My aunt loved it because she would remember the tricks and do them for her. She was an intelligent, beautiful little dog.
She was around when my son was born. I have old photos (ones I don't even have scanned in because it was before digital) of him lying on the floor as an infant with Lily looking down at him, wondering what this new kind of critter could be. My son was the first baby in the family for 13 years, so everyone was cooing over him. Lily wasn't used to not being the center of attention, but she tolerated him very well.

I think my daughter will miss Lily most of all. She loves her so much that she names almost all of her dog stuffed animals, Lily. She even told me that if she could change her name, it would be to the name Lily or Lillyan (her spelling of it). My daughter is stayed over a friend's house on Friday night, so she's not home yet, but I'm not looking forward to telling her that she has passed away.

Goodbye, Lily. You will be missed. Run free of pain over the Rainbow Bridge!
