Hello, I'm new to the forum, I'm Morgan and my cute rabbit is Daisy Mae!

Okay, so here is my big question. My husband is in themilitary and stationed in Germany. This May I will be joininghim. I really want to take Daisy with me because she is mypride and joy and I can't imagine 3 years without her and plus I don'thave anywhere else for her to stay. The only problem is I'm reallyworried about the trip over. The trip to Germany is at least 8-9 hourslong. I don't really know about airline poicies with rabbits. My main concern is her well-being. Is it safe to travel that far withher? What percautions should I take and what advice can you give tomake the trip easier on the two of us.

Any information would be amazing. Thanks!

-Morgan

Rabbits are usually sedated for plane rides.Your bunny should NEVER be sedated becuase they may not wake up fromit. Also it is very stressful for you rabbit to be in a new enviormentwhere she'll hear other animals such as dogs, cats and birds. Someairlines do not accept rabbits and if you really must bring your bunnythey may have to put him or her in a room where all the suit cases areheld. The loading and unloading from the plane cause your rabbit to beVERY scared.

i know this may sound silly but, can you take a cruise to Germany?:?.....

check with the airline before bringing rabbits. HOPE THIS HELPS!

I just flew my Trixie here to California from NYon a 13hr plane ride. They didn't recommend sedation, whichwas nice, and she was just fine when she came home. Shewasn't frightened or stressed in the least...just hopped right out ofher carrier, looked around the livingroom a bit...came over to sniffme...

And this was with new people AND a new home! :D

Here's the thread I created (and will be buffing up a bit so that itONLY holds the pertinant information) about bunny planetravel. Though a few things will be different flying toanother country, I think the information will be of a bit ofhelp. :)

I've never heard of sedation being used forrabbits on planes, I don't think it would be safe without vetsupervision.

Do check out Germany's rules on importing rabbits, and read up onmyxomatosis. You'll need to vaccinate your rabbit for thisdeadly disease as soon as possible after arriving in Germany.

I would suggest taking your bun as a carry on.Most airlines have a fee for live animal carry ons ($45-ish), but ingeneral it's less stressful on the bun. If you do that you need to makesure to call the airline and let them know that you will be bringing ananimal, a lot of airlines only allow 2-4 live animals in the cabin.Have a good trip!:)

I would definately check the quarantinerequirements for arriving in germany. Also, (I'm goingto Belgium, France, & Switzerland with a school tripin two weeks with a layover in Munich) I know it's about 10 hours fromthe west coast to Germany. If you aren't on the East Coast, you could try flying there then from there to Germany.Perhaps with a short break in the middle. It would probablybe better to do two short flights than one long one, not that I wouldknow.

Haha...a cruise would be nice! But, I don't think the military would pay for that one lol!

Thanks for your help! I don't think I would sedate her, it sounds waytoo dangerous and I wouldn't want to do anything to hurt her.I hate the idea of stressing her out at all, but I gotta take her withme! haha

Thank you sooo much!! That information wasamazing. I won't know for another couple of weeks whatairline I'm flying with (My tickets will be already ordered and paidfor before I know anything) but as soon as I do I will begiving them a call with all of those questions!! I'm glad to here fromsomeone who has had the experience!!

I'm glad your Trixie got there safe and sound!!

Oh yay! I'm so glad my information was helpful! :D

I'm happy she arrived safe and sound, too.

Don't worry...your baby will be just fine...:)
