Hi Guys..I'm still on the same topic ofbabette's pneumonia but something popped into my head this AM. Beau hadhis teeth pulled about 3 weeks ago..he was on baytril suspension upuntil about 1 week ago. Babette got the lung infection last Sat andlast night I noted a BAD ODOR from Beau's mouth. After thesurgery I was told not to pull up on the lips of his mouth as he had astitch and they didn't want any thing disturbed. I am thinking that assoon as he went off antibiotics that his mouth got infected again(hegets re-checked in 1 week in Madison). Is it possible that Babette (whodotes on himand grooms him constantly) got pneumonia from thebacteria in Beaus's mouth??? I am going to get beau back on antibioticsbut I am very interested if this idea could be possible

Quite honestly she could have gotten it fromanywhere. Although I would think it would be difficult forher to inhale his bacteria all the way into her lungs.

My advice is: Don't worry about how she got it. It will just stress you out.:)

yeah..its pretty much impossible to tell how she got it.

My bunnieshadnt been out of the house for at least a month.Basil is fine. Tumnus is fine. Max is the only one sick. Its weird.

Anyway, dont stress out. Youre worrying yourself sick hun!

Im praying for your babies

Haley:pray:

Hi Guys..just woke up worrying about money andhealth issues. Babette is doing fine and we are switching her over tooral ciprofloxicin..(another vet I know better than the 1st). Beau isgoing back on oral antibiotics until we go to Madison on Wed. This wassupposed to be re-check on his teeth but now I'm worried that if hismouth is still infected that the dentist will need to do more and then$$$$$$$. I wish that i could feel better but the vet made a point oftelling me to be sure to keep everyone separated (because of Babette).I actually think that the others would be sick by now if they weregoing to get activepasturella and that it may be an agerelated immune system thing with her. If the others don't get sick itshould be OK. Vet didn't think the mouth infection caused the lunginfection. The vet stressed that I should keep the newshelter bunny separated (He will come after a neuter on Oct 31st.). Iam going to keep him in a different part of the house. CoCo went topetco 2 days ago and already has an application on her but I don't knowif it wasapproved.I used tp help others on RO butit seems like all I do now is get support . Haley..how is max???

I agree that her age is a likely factor. Older rabbits oftendon't metabolize their food as well, so you might consider giving her alittle Nutri Cal daily to help boost her strength and immune system alittle.

Max is also doing a lot better. Im so glad bothour buns are coming out of this.

I really hope that Beau is healing alright. I'll be keeping him in my thoughts and prayers.

Also, have you checked out pet insurance? I have VPI and while theydont pay for everything, I do think it helps. I pay about 24 dollars amonth to have Basil and Max covered. You may want to check into it...

I just got some money from VPI. On a $770 bill,I got roughly $290 back. I know they say $50downand will pay up to 90%, but I KNEW it would not beanywhere close to that and prepaired for the worse. But gotabout half of it back. Thank God. So they arepretty good, considering they are about $10 a rabbit.

Now I have to file Pennys second surgry, about the same amount. I'm such a procrastinator.

I have heard of VPI and am very interested ingetting it for my rabbits that have NO health problems yet..I know theywon't cover on existing problems...with all the pets in this world Ithink that insurance is going to get more common. It is ridiculous thatmost of us are paying such huge bills and I think that it is cheaper topay on an older rabbit than an older dog or cat as maybe the insurancecompany doesn't know that some rabbits can live such long lives. I surewish I would have known about the insurance before I ever took Beau tothe vet years ago
