So we're going to the vet tomorrow because I am worried about her although I may be over-reacting.

Her eating has slowed down quite a bit lately. It's like she just doesn't feel like eating.

A little bit of background on what is going on...

First point of concern
It seems that Charlie has become the dominant bunny.

When I used to feed them, Misty would go over and steal what he was eating, because for some reason whatever he was eating was better than what she was eating. Well that has caused Charlie to be become a little defensive where his food is concerned (I didn't notice this happening until one day he started charging at me if I went near his food).

Now, when Misty is eating, Charlie goes over to see what she has, and she just runs away. She doesn't like to eat when he is near her. If she is eating a piece of parsley, and he goes over to her, she drops the parsley and leaves the room. Then he finishes ALL the food and she gets nothing.

I've tried feeding them separately, but now Misty is not really interested in eating too quickly. She takes her time whereas before, she would scarf everything down as soon as she saw it.

Second point of concern
Misty tore a huge hole in the sofa and yanked out a bunch of the stuffing a few days ago. I found a lot of the stuffing, but none of the leather that she tore off the chair, which leads me to believe that she ate it all.

She has been pooping normal sized poops, and peeing ok BUT her tummy has been very hard lately. I thought it was gas since we gave them Bok Choy for the first time this week, but it seems to always be hard, so I am very very worried that she is blocked up, although - the poos are frequent and normal sized...

Third point of concern
A few months ago Misty jumped/fell when Neil was holding her, and she jammed her mouth. I am thinking maybe it jarred her jaw enough that she is developing molar spurs and not wanting to eat..

So I am going to vet and asking him to check her for blockage, and to check her teeth...

I am such a worry-er. I can never have kids, I would never sleep.

Aw, the poor thing! I hope things go well at the vet. It sounds like a good sign that she is pooping normally though. Keep us posted!

It is good that she's pooping, but I would check with the vet, too. If her tummy is hard, and is staying that way, I think it's a good idea to get her examined. Good luck, and let us know how she's doing.

Poor Misty. I hope that the check up reveals nothing wrong - it's always a good sign when the poops are normal. Could she just feel intimidated by Charlie stealing her food?Let us know how she gets on.

How did Misty's vet visit go?

Hey guys - sorry for not updated, on vacation, so not on the computer as often.

I didn't end up taking her ot the vet, I made the appt and was ready to go, but the morning of the appt, she was binkying around the room and her tummy was back to normal, lots of poop and pee and a generally happy bunny.

Seems like she might have been having a bit of a tummy ache but got past it? She's totally back to normal and eating like a fiend. Must have been a phase.

I'm such a worry wort.

Thats great Nadia!

Maybe it was just a little bit of gas she had to work through. Youre such a good bunny mom for being so attentive!

:) I'm making a real effort to feed her and Charlie seperately, I think that might also be contributing to her being in a better eating mood. I let her eat alone before he gets near her food, so she gets her fill without Charlie harassing he rand vice versa.

She has seemed much happier since I have started doing that... it might have been contributing to the problem.

Great news, Nadia. I am so relieved that she is a happy bunny again :).

I think you could be right about the eating situation. Perhaps Misty was rushing her food before Charlie came and stole it, and possibly taken in too much air with it? Anyhoo, I am so pleased things worked out :)

:bunnydance::bunnydance::bunnydance:We're dancing and binkying here! That's such a relief. Take care and keep on being such a great bunny mom. You're not a worry wort...you love your babies, and want to keep them healthy.

So the devil bun is off and on the food again - so I just sucked it up, stopped second guessing and took her to the vet today.

Our girl has molar spurs. The ones on the right side of her face were digging into her tongue. I did notice she was moving all of her food to the left side of her face to eat, and yesterday I was petting her and whenever I touched the right side of her jaw, she flinched a little. So I was not surprised. I suspected as much...

So she's all trimmed, and hopefully back to normal. The vet also mentioned she was proabably gassy from not eating well, and wasn't worried about it... so we'll see if that goes away as well. She told me to let Misty snack on some Critical Care as well as the gas med to make her feel better. Misty loves Critical Care, so I'm sure she won't complain.

And she MUST be feeling better now cause she is doing binkies around the living room which I have not seen in a while

I'm glad to hear it wasn't anything too serious and that she's feeling better already!

At least now you know what Misty's problem was! i'm also happy to hear that she is doing so much better :)

If she stops doing binkies and doesn't want to eat again, it may be the pain meds wearing off.Theirlittle mouths are stretched open with a tool during the procedure and it makes them stiff and sore once the pain meds wear off. (The shot they get usually only lasts between 12 and 24 hours.

Sorry I didn't read the original post very thoroughly, the slow eating bit would have had me immediately thinking spurs. I've managed to keep Pipp's at bay, although I'm not sure how, the stinker won't eat hay or grass. I'vebeen feeding her 'hard' veggies - broccoli and cauliflower stems, this carrot stems, crunchy chard, etc -- and avariety of pellet shapes and sizes, including theMartin Less Active.

She was due for a trim when she stopped eating over the July long weekend but the vet was gone. I gave her some leftover Metacam, which started her eating again. The spur must hvae broken off, because after a couple of days of that, she was fine. She still has on and off days, but I've discovered that as long as I can get her drinking -- I'm bribing her with diluted juice, etc -- she'll eat. Left to her own devices, I've never actaully seen her drink, and sheslowly loses her appetite.I think the spurs are back, but then I get her somediluted carrot juice, and she's fine. (It's the oddest thing!)

Anyway, poor little Misty! Give her a pat on that precious nose from all of us.

Oh poor Misty! I'm glad she's feeling better now! It's funny how well they can cover that up, isn't it? My kittens do the whole "Woe is me" routine for every little thing. If they had a sharp tooth spur digging into the tongue I'm sure they'd let me know, very loudly.
