Last night as we always do, we go and check on our two rabbits. everyone was fine and dandy. This morning I head downstairs to check on them and my female, who we thought may have been pregnant (it's now 49 days...so that can be ruled out) had pulled so much fur thru the night that I could just about see her in her nest. As I watched her, she was pulling fur from all places on her body that her mouth could reach.

Could this be one of those FALSE pregnancy's I've read about on here?

I gave her a large handful of hay this morning and it went directly to her nest.

She did not touch her food pellets from last night either (I think she was to busy pulling fur!)

She is a Nor. Dwarf aprox 1.5-2 years old.

She been eating BLUESEAL RABBIT HUTCH DELUXE since we have had her (5 months).

She been drinking her water. ( we did add a little vanilla extract to help with urine odor)

She has not shown any strange behavior patterns.

She was "oinking" a little this morning while I was petting her.

Additional note: Where we keep out rabbit is in front of our unused fireplace. Last night on of my kids left a door that leads to our garage open and this was causing a very cool draft to run across her cage from the door to the fireplace. Would this draft cause her to pull fur to try and keep warm?

Thanks!

It does sound like a false pregnancy. Sometimes their appetite decreases because their raging hormones are causing so much stress. Keep a close eye on her and make sure she eats something (maybe some veggies?) and is still pooping and peeing.

I doubt that this was caused by the open door, so don't worry.:)

Are you planning on spaying her? She's young enough that it's still very safe. I had two girls her age spayed and they did just fine. Spaying would prevent more false pregnancies and reduce the stress that comes with that. If you neutered your boy too, you could bond them and let them live together.;)
