Making things out of Recycled/reused/waste materials?

Hey guys!

For class, I have to design and make something useful out of recycled/reused/waste materials and I was thinking why not make something for my rabbit? The only thing is what?

I was thinking about making some type of cage/hutch for him but that might be to much work...

And the project has to be more a minimum of 8 hours to make...

Any ideas guys? I'd appreciate it a lot.

Anything that takes at least 8 hours to do isn't going to be that simple.

Where do the recycled etc materials come from? I assume you won't be able to raid your family's house for things, whether other people are done with them or not.

All I can think of wouldn't take that long, like putting cardboard boxes together to make a maze.

How about an exercise pen or like an outdoor run? Old wood, chicken wire, unused bed frame. Doesnt have to look pretty. Or what about an assortment of things? A hay rack from left over nic grids, chicken wire, wood, etc. Then a covered litter box with steps, a dig box from an old hollowed out tv (only because I saw one on the curb on my run for sneaky snacks) Would that work? A total of 8 hours on multiple things

I really everybody's ideas... I think I'll do more than one item to total up to 8 hours!
So anyways, where can I get old/reclaimed wood?

Check at a lumber mill or home depot/lowes. When they cut wood they'll have scraps that they can't sell. Also check grocery stores for pallets. You'll have to take the wood apart yourself but alot of times they can't return them because the cost is to great vs. the return they would get on them. Also if you have a bulk trash day. Check the paper for it or call the garbage company. You'd be amazed at what people throw away.

also check freecycling. many areas have ads where people are giving things away that could be useful but they don't want. this sounds like a great project! I'm constantly repurposing objects around the house, it's fun to be creative.

You could convert a piece of furniture into a cage. I see a lot of rabbit owners doing it and the same thing could work just as well for bunnies, a large cupboard, sideboard or chest of drawers (drawers removed) to give your the sides, then build a mesh door for the front, line the floor with some vinyl/lino - would work great!

I agree with freecycling. You could maybe even ask for some NIC pannels or old closet shelves on there. If people have them and are getting rid of them you could maybe get them.
