Does anyone know where I can order 25-50 lbs of grass hay at a time from not too far away, so the shipping charges aren't too high? This would probably be from IL, IN, IO, KY, MI, MO, OH, WI.

DrsF&S is where I've gotten hay so far, but their prices are high, so "free shipping" doesn't mean it's a bargain. If I lived out your way I'd try kmshayloft.com.

25 lbs orchard at Drs is $55, 50 lbs is $75.
25 lbs timothy at Drs is $40, 50 lbs is $52. [20% off sale]
orchard grass is out of stock at kms until August
40 lbs 3rd cut timothy is $48, including shipping to NV
to IL it's $10.50 addl shipping.

Actually, today I just received the hay I ordered from sweetmeadowfarm.com. For $47, including shipping here, I got 35 lbs & it's nicer than DFS. If DFS is 2nd cut, this is like 3rd.

I've been buying hay from Sweet Meadow for a few years now. I order every 4 to 6 weeks.
I've always been happy with their hay.
Even when there were problems (Once there were blackberry bushes mixed in.... OUCH!! And one time there was a moldy tree branch) their customer service was outstanding in correcting the issue....in my case the hay was replaced at no cost.

I buy the bulk box, too. Costs me about $38 w/shipping.
Fast delivery...they use Fed Ex so I usually get it in 2 days.

I like that it's a family owned business that harvests from their own farm, too.

I correspond with the owner (Al) from time to time.
Last time I commented on how nice the hay was and asked if it was 3rd cut. His reply was that all bulk timothy will be 2nd cut...a very nice 2nd cut...it was a good year for hay for them.

One thing Al recommended to me was to make sure I took the hay out of the inner plastic bag to keep it from getting moldy.

If I ever get up their way, I'm going to make sure I stop by to see them.

I just got an order of reallllly nice hay from smallpetselect.com. Like 40 lbs for 45 shipped....
