My rabbit just ate a few bits of a magnet...:banghead The soft sort of bendable kind with a picture on the front? Obviously this isn't a good thing, but is it particularly dangerous? I mean, she didn't eat the whole thing, or even half, but I did notice her munching on something and thought it was her apple branch, and well, it wasn't. Will she be ok as long as it passes through, or will magnets mess with something inside of her?

I'm hoping they were those really weak magnets. I know there were a few kids toys taken off the market recently because kids swallowed little magnetic pieces and they stuck together in their intestines.:?

For now, I'd recommend doing what you should always do when your rabbit eats something it shouldn't (carpet, rubber, cloth, etc).Push the hay a lot and encourage her to drink more water.Feeding canned pumpkin can help too, and my bunnies consider that a favorite treat so they think they're being spoiled.

If she seems to be in pain, have difficulty moving, or her poops decrease, get her to a vet. But hopefully the pieces will get pushed out with the hay and not cause a problem.

:yeahthat

couldn't have said it better. . . and if you see ANY odd behaviour, get her to the vet asap. . .

I don't know if she's being sleepy or feeling sick :( The vet is closed for today anyways so even if she isn't feeling good they probably won't take her unless it's a big emergency...

She won't go near the pumpkin :( Barely takes a wiff and she disregards it. What a difficult little rabbit! Wouldn't you believe she went back to try to grab a new magnet today :dunno

Just a bit of info -

Bo hated pumpkin - he would be so offended if I even thought about offering it to him...... Then I smeared it on his foot. He had to eat it. once he did, he likes it. It's still not his favorite, but he will eat a bit if I put it in his dish.

Clover bunny practically inhales it. I started her out the same way and she absolutely thinks pumpkin is heaven on Earth.

Awww that's cute ^.^ maybe I should put some on her foot too. I tried putting it on a craisins, but it was hard to smear proprerly and she just made the pumpkin fall off then gobble the craisin.

She finally got a liking for the pumpkin :)

She still seems ok, but I'm worried that there's something I can't see.Plus, tomorrow I'm leaving till Monday, and she's staying with a friend. So, I figured I'd call a vet to see their opinion. My university's vet clinic said to bring her in asap, but they were very expensive, so I called a regular vet 20 min away and tried to bring her, but I couldn't make it before they closed, so we have a 10:30am appointment tomorrow.

I'm scared that they will charge me tons of money with x-rays and what-not, and nothing's wrong with her. I just payed for her spay a month ago, total $200. I have very little money after that :( She seems fine now....

How long does it take for something to pass through a rabbit??

Oops, missed this! Unless something got stuck somewhere, it *should* be pushed out by now. It's possible she nibbled them into small enough pieces that you couldn't see them in her poop. But they could also be forming a minor blockage in her, although I wouldn't worry if she's acting healthy.

Is she still eating and pooping? Is she still lethargic?

We went to the vet Saturday morning and they took her x-ray. You could see a bright spot of magnet still in her, in her intestine. They seem to have lumped together. I got a little worried, but the vet seemed happy that it had passed through her stomach? I asked if it was too big for her to pass, and he didn't think so and said she woud probably poop it out. So he sent us on our not-so-merry way telling me to call if she stops eating or pooping and to examine her poops to see if it shows up and possibly hold a magnet over them to see if one sticks. She's still pooping, although I can't be sure if it's a good number or not because she got very stressed at the vet and went straight to my friend's, a place she's never been before with a bunny in the room she's never met (they weren't let out together but he's an un-neutered male so he was very interested...),and I just let her out now for the first time since I got back.

She's also shedding a lot, so I'm worried it might add to her "pushing out problem" even though I pick the fur and run her over with a lint brush at least once a day. Should I give her, pineapple juice or whatever it was for hairballs? Will that help her with the magnet too?She gets tons of hay of course but anything that would help I'd like to give her.
