valentine-and-buns.jpg

February 14, 2012, Press Dispensary.

Bunny girl living alone too long seeks bunny boy to snuggle up with on cold nights, enjoy romantic meals together, and go running, jumping and foraging. Looking to share my spacious love-nest, in well appointed large and secure grounds, well furnished and spotlessly clean. Will nuzzle your ears if you nuzzle mine.

The Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF) is the UK's largest charity dedicated to improving the lives of pet rabbits. This Valentine's Day the charity is urging owners to find a companion for their rabbit.

RWAF Vet Advisor Richard Saunders had this to say. "In the wild, rabbits live in large social groups and depend on each other for security, comfort and grooming. Keeping a rabbit alone is cruel. It's as simple as that. Rabbits should be kept in neutered pairs or groups and have access to a safe exercise area at all times."

So whilst we think about our own romantic needs this Valentine's day, we should spare a thought for the lonely bunnies out there…

Oh how lovely! There's nothing so wonderful as bonded rabbits just snuggling up together.

Here are my rabbits. Nutmeg is the orange and white, Betty is harder to describe. Orange and grey, I suppose

Thanks, HappyFarmBunnies. I'm useless with breeds...I can manage the more obvious ones like Dutch and English Spot, but beyond that, they're all just lovely rabbits to me.

Nutmeg has maybe 5 or 6 dark spots on him, some black, the rest grey. I'm vague on this because the number changes with successive moults. Sometimes there are 6 sometimes only 5, and the intensity of the colour varies too. They're all sprinkled across his shoulders. Does that still make him what you said?

Betty has that grey round her muzzle, some on her ears and some on the outside of each hind leg, below the stifle. Again the amount varies each time she moults. Mostly she's orange. Does that fit for a black tort?

I've dropped them off with a friend for the weekend and they're having a whale of a time exploring the attic room she's got them in. We have a RWAF committee meeting this weekend , so I'm not going to be at home to look after them. No doubt when they come home, even though they seem to love where they are, I'll be the subject of deep displeasure.

Aw! Your rabbits are gorgeous!
