Litter training troubles!

I just made my 8 month old little boy a free range after he got neutered. He got neutered on June 10th and he seems to still be territory pooping. Could still be his hormones? He only seems to want to poop right next to my bed on the floor and also my bed. He loves to lay on my son's bed and NEVER poops on it but loves to poop on my bed and it's driving me crazy. Too soon to free roam?? Thoughts or advice?

I have done some research and I vacuume constantly and throw any poos into the litter box. He doesn't pee on the floor (thank God). He's great at peeing in the litter box. I have 2 litter boxes in my room available for him at different corners. I'm guessing this will all take time and for his hormones to calm down and for him to get the hang of all the change but any advice will help. Did I do this too soon?

Is it just poop on your bed? not pee? personally I don't mind stray poops around, just not pee, 'cause it's hard to clean. With poop, I can just pick it up and flick it to the litterbox lol!

Does he like to eat on your bed? I noticed they poop a lot while eating

I wish it was only stray poops. I wouldn't mind that but when he hops up, he leaves a pile of little Cocoa Puffs on my bed and all over the floor. He's not peeing on my bed which I'm very happy about. He pees in his litter box only. But the poop is soo out of hand.
It has been almost 2 months but I'm not sure how long it may take for his hormones to calm down. I heard some take longer than most and I'm thinking maybe that's what is going on with him?
He's amazing otherwise and acts just like a free roamer. Would rather sleep on my son's bed than lay on the floor. He's a spoiled little guy and I'd hate to have to put him in a pen just because he's pooping a lot, so I'm trying to figure out how to fix it.

Oh also, he doesn't eat in my bed. Only on the floor and crazy part is he still doesn't poop nearly as much when he's eating. That's why I'm thinking it's territory pooping.

hmm there must be something on your bed that makes him like to poop there. Does he jump up on the bed to just poop? Have you tried to change the bedsheet to see if he's still poop there? Have you tried the vinegar trick? It sounds nasty and is said to usually for pees, might work for poop...?

You could try either putting a blanket he sleeps on on your bed so the bed has his smell on it or block access to the bed for a couple of months. Good luck!

Yup, I tried changing the bed sheets, spraying my bed down with odor remover. That's why I'm so lost as to why he jumps on the bed and poops. So we do have a cat. Do you think the cats smell on my bed might trigger him to put his smell?

That's a good idea. I do have a blanket of his that he really likes. I can try that. Thank you!

You are having almost identical problems we were having with our bunny. When he poops he is claiming his territory. The problem was his whole territory was my whole house. After lots of research in trial and error. It appears that we gave too much space too fast so we had to back him off on the amount of space he was allowed for about 3-4 days. Then slowly reintroduce certain areas. It's like when their hormones are still trying to figure things out and all of a sudden being allowed so much space it's a little overwhelming so they want to territory poop on everything and everywhere.
Now our bunny has his own little space with the door open always and he can come and go as he please. He also has his own little corner to claim as his own. And there are days that he likes to just hang out in his space all day and other days he is out and about all day long with us all over the house. His choice. My bunny prefers to be in his own area at night. Anytime I clean his area he will territory poop to let me know that this is his space. Which is fine because he stopped pooping all over my house. Mind you I do clean his space up everyday when he's not there to see me do it. if he catches me cleaning his area he will run over right away and the poop will come out just as fast as I'm cleaning it up. Yes he is a stinker like that.
For his area I got a large remnant rug and just put his toys his tunnel and his things on the rug. He has a litter box on the rug along with his hay bin and snuffle rug. He hangs out in that area quite a bit just like a teenager in his dirty old room. And like I said he's free to come and go as he wishes. Good luck!

Ohhhh!
That could be his problem! He did go from a small space to a bigger space so def might be overwhelmed. I'll try limiting him more and see how that goes! Thank you so much
