just took the GRE!

i just finished taking the GRE (graduate records examination). it's like the SAT for college grads who wanna go to graduate school.

i'm still shaking. and i'm insanely tired.

but i'm sooo glad it's over!

more about this later. just had to vent that out on here!!

I hope you did well!!! I took it this August, and thankfully don't have to retake, although i'm sure I could stand for improvement, but OH WELL!

It's very nerve-racking, I don't remember being that nervous for the ACT. yikes!

I'm graduating with my Bachelor's this May, but won't be taking my GRE's for at leasta year.

I took the GRE last April and it was terrifying!!! I went in without having taken any prep courses or studying much. I ended up with a 1250 which is a good score. I hope you do well!:biggrin2:

phew, bunny friends. talk about a long day.

before i go curl up under my warm blankies, i wanted to send a thank you to everyone who was like YOU GO GIRL haha.

the GRE is scored similar to the SAT in that there are two sections, each worth 800 points for a total of 1600. there is a third section for the GRE which is writing, and there were two essays to be written, but those need to be reviewed by a committee and i will get a grade of some kind of letters like excellent or good or something. whatever. that will be snail mailed to me in a few weeks.

as of right now, i do know this.

610 quantitative
570 verbal

1180 total

i want to retake and try better for the verbal. honestly i have no idea how i even did better on the quan than the verbal. i mean, i is edumucated, no?

anyway. will keep this thread updated for future plans.

UGH so glad i can take a break now even if i do decide to retake soon.

I remember the GRE, LOL.



I took 'em back in 1990. The General(verb/quant) test was the first half of the day, and the Subject test was the second half. Back in those days, it took six weeks to get the results, and I don't recall my scores, but I was told recently that some gradprograms honor the results forever, meaning if I wanted to use mine from 18 years ago, and go back fora PhD in whatever, I could, without retaking those grueling tests, LOL.

for anyone who plans on taking the GRE, SAT, or ACT anytime soon (at least here in america!)

there is a wonderful website that does free tutoring and tons of free practice/prep for you to prepare you. i used it to train for the GRE for a few months, and because of that site, i believe it boosted my quantitative scores probably 300 points.

never been a math person, i'll admit that much!

plus, it's free, unlike kaplan prep courses or other prep courses.

good luck to you, and utilize this! but, it is by no means a substitute for buying an actual $15 - $30 book with a trillion practice questions and tutoring sections in it. using both together is probably the most ideal situation if you aren't going to take a $1000 class!
