OH MY GOD.

The bunnies are SOOOOO jumpy right now. They are eager to eat whenever we come near, but when I put food in their plate they don't eat as much. They are biting our hands (usually from thinking we have food in them) and being EXTRA, EXTRA JUMPY.

Cream was the one who was normally jumpy, but now, Cookie is extremely jumpy.

Help!

And I think their fur got less soft. That's just me though, because my brother and my sister don't think so.But I definitely thinkso.

Oh, let me define jumpy:

Cookie is jumping in the air for no reason and darting SUPER FAST around the cage for no reason.

And something's wrong with Cream: one of his ear is up and the other is down. He doesn't mind me touching the ear, and I tried to kind of put it up for him but it's not working.

Looks like he sprained(?) his ear or something. What is this? I'm super worried.

Can you show us a picture? What does the ear look like inside? Is it dirty, are there specks of black/red crud? Or does it smell bad?

Sometimes rabbits with ear problems will have the ear fall over. But, my guess is that your bun is actually a lop and his ear naturally fell. The ears of lop-eared rabbits stickup for the first month or two, sometimes longer, before they fall down.

It sounds like Cookie is playing and is a very happy bunny.Rabbits like to race around, dash in and out of boxes, and jump in the air while kicking and twisting (called a binky) when they're happy and hyper. They're probably playing more now because they're starting to get used to their new home.:)

You may indeed have very young lop bunnies. Lops are not born with lopped ears - the ears begin to fall at 2 weeks and up (some may take many months to fall - or neve rat all).

They will lose their very soft baby coats by about 12 weeks of age.

I argree with Pam it sounds too me like your babies might be lops.rabbits may jump in the air for no reason and it sounds too me like they are playing.bluebird

It sounds to me like they're settling in and binkying (or close to it) just to share their joy...

I wouldn't be surprised if they had some lop in them...I have some rabbits that have one ear up and one ear down....when they're younger..(not my lionheads).

I agree with all of the above :D. Jumping and running and skidding round and round in circles if just the bunny being happy and getting exercise. Do you have food available for them at all times or do you just hand feed them? Rabbits are grazers and the little babies especially should have pellets available all the time.

Here is an example of up ears turning into lop ears. These were some babies of mine from last year:

Up at 3 weeks of age:

Starting to fall at 5 weeks:

And I don't seem to have any fully lopped pictures, but you get my point :)

Oh, so Cookie's just being happy? Oh, thank god. :hug2:

As for Cream, his ear isn't weird this morning. It's all fine. :rollseyes

I was so scared at their behavior yesterday...

I put another box in the cage and kind of connected it with the previous box. So they can crawl in through the camera box and come out from the gap in the new cracker box! :bunnyheart

Lop rabbits? I thought Cookie and Cream were Polish. :dutchWell I wouldn't be surprised if they were mixed..

Fur being less soft...okay, so that's normal. I was awfully worried.

As for food, I try not to feed them too much because my mom keeps on saying they will get fat and grow too quickly. So when she's not around I give them a lot of food. :) TOday I left food in their plate, in the box (so they can eat inside), and on the wood.

It's so sweet with Cookie and Cream because now, when being fed one pellet after another, they take caution not to bite my hand. I can see them trying really hard to just take the pellet. THat's so sweet!

Thanks for all the help!!

Babies under 6 months old should have free access to pellets at all times. They need a lot of energy(food), to grow properly.

You can safely start restricting feed at about 6 months of age.

So make sure they always have a full food dish. And you can tell your mom that rabbits are not like dogs and cats, they are grazers so the need to eat all the time or they get sick.

Tell your mom they wont get fat ;), in fact I think it would be difficult to get a young rabbit fat unless you fed it cookies or something and never let them out of the cage for exercise. They need to have access to pellets all the time at that age for sure.Rabbits need food moving in the gut constantly otherwise they can get very ill very quickly.

They may be part this and part that, it's hard to tell. My mother in law has a lop crossed with something else and sometimes one ear goes down for a day, or both ears, then back up again.

To me your bunnies just look like any old regular breed, it's too hard to tell at that young age. I've seen a lot of baby lop crosses that look like Cookie and Cream.

They are sooooo cute! :bunnydance:

Alright...

I have a lot of pictures and videos, but for now I will just post one picture. It's from last Sunday when we made a card box fence in the backyard. They were really excited!

Cookie is so little and cute! Looks a bit like these baby minilops :), but these guys are only 4 weeks old.

I'm really not good at telling what a rabbit is though but I just thought they looked similar.

Now I'm almost certain that my babies are Polish/Lops. :) Check out the blog thread too, I have links to three vids of them! :thumbup
