Hi guys,

Jack is around 13 weeks old and up until the few days, he would beextra happy when I got home from work and gave him the run of my homefor the evening. Since Saturday he's been really quiet andsleeping a lot during his normal 'playtime'. I noticed he'ssneezing a lot too.

I checked him over myself and his nose is fine, his bowels are normal and he's eating OK.

I had a cold last week so wondered if he's caught that - can rabbits get human colds?

I don't have central heating in my home and Jack's hutch is in mykitchen. When I get home from work I put on my halogen heaterin my lounge and a friend wondered if he's maybe cold where he is(although I wouldn't say my home is particularly cold and he always hasa load of hay in his hutch) and when he is allowed freedom when I gethome that the sudden warmth is making him sleepy? How can Itell if he's feeling chilly?

One more possibility I'm considering is that I bought a new bag of hayon Saturday and cleaned out his hutch and used the new hay. Icleaned him out again last night and took his hutch through to mybedroom last night so I could keep an eye on him overnight. When it was bedtime he was ushered intohis newly cleanedhutch and he almost immediately started sneezing over and over againfor a couple of minutes. The hay I bought on Saturday wasn'tfrom my normal supplier so is it possible he has an allergy to the hayI bought?

Thank you

How cold does it get when you don't have theheater on? Big temperature changes can be bad for rabbits andthat might be bugging him.

Is the hay dusty? If so, it might be causing him tosneeze. You can try shaking it out outside to get more of thedust off. An air purifier might help too.

Rabbits do not get colds, and can not catch a cold from ahuman. But they do sometimes get allergies, and they do getrespiratory infections. I'm a bit concerned about thelethargy combined with the sneezing. It would be a good ideato have him checked out by a vet. He might have a respiratoryinfection which would require antibiotics. If the infectionis deeper in the respiratory system then he'd be less likely to havemucous coming from his nose.

Hi naturestree

It's not particularly cold in my home, certainly not so much so that I couldn't sit without heating on anyway.

The hay could be dusty, but I didn't notice either way, I will try shaking it out in any case.

I have made an appointment with the vet for this evening, I'll let you know what the outcome is.

Thanks

:)
