Is this too much veg I'm feeding him? He weighs about 5 lbs and gets pellets in the morning, greens at night and unlimited hay. (the carrot pieces are the pre scliced ones you can buy).20180323_192935.jpg20180323_192913.jpg20180323_192927.jpg

Just the greens once a day. He gets pellets in the morning and then this plate of greens for his dinnr

Yikes. So maybe too much. He eats it all fairly quickly. I know prey animals do eat alot though. He's not overweight whatsoever either. Maybe I should cut back a tad.

As long as he isnt getting yucky poops it is not too much.
I would just be careful as to what veggies he is being given as some can cause other problems if given in excess.

Poop is normal. He gets green lettuce, spinach, cilantro, parsley and carrots. I mix them up and rotate them.

Veggies like spinach and Kale youll want to use a little less due to their high protein/calcium/oxalic acid

And carrots are a bit high in sugar so maybe a smaller amount of those. Treat them like fruit.
But mix it up. Add more herbs. Different lettuces (no iceberg)
Not sure where you live but planting season is almost upon us here so matbe you can grow some goodies for him too.

We are in Houston, tx. It's funny you say that, because I have a small raised garden and planted all kinds of good veggies for him last weekend actually.

I wasn't aware that kale and spinach weren't good in large quantities, so I will definitely cut back on those, as well as the carrots. I have been getting his food from our local Kroger and Walmart and I just feel like they don't have much variety. That or Maybe I'm just not educated enough on what they can have and how to serve it. Where do you get your vegetables from?

We give ours parsley, cilantro, and Italian parsley twice a day with some Romaine lettuce and a small bit of apple in the AM, and some dandelion and a small bit of carrot in the evening. We also add a little bit of spinach or celery every now and then as a treat.

Some "spring mix" from your local grocer has dandelion. I usually just got a tub of baby greens.

Plant herbs too! Herbs herbs herbs! Dill and basil and sage and oregano... edible flowers! My guys go crazy for lilac flowers. Cilantro is like crack.
Im in Canada so cant comment on grocery stores.... walmart or safeway usually.

Carrot tops. Tops from raddish and beets and etc.... stuff we usually throw out bunnys often love.
Growing zucchini? Theres often way more male flowers then females so give them some zuch flowers.
You can get pretty creative.

This was breakfast for my 2 when they were 2/3 months old. We fill a large dog bowl usually.

Omg that looks awesome!!! I planted some veggies last week in our garden, but no flowers. I am going to do that first chance I get and am also going to be on the lookout for the mixed baggies. I went to our local farmers market yesterday after reading y'all's posts and picked up some good stuff. I just hope it doesn't go bad before he gets to eat it. I only have one bun, but I got a little excited seeing all the different stuff they had. Lol. (I am slowly introducing new veggies one a time) Can you freeze some of them and defrost later?

Remember though that fruits are treats -- high in sugar. So limit fruit (or carrot) to about 1-2 tablespoons max per day. That means if he gets 1 slice of an apple, he gets no other fruit or carrot that same day.

Basil should grow well for you throughout the summer heat. That is what I grow out here in the Phoenix heat. Lasts all summer long.

What's great about having the garden is there is no worry about greens going bad. When my garden is going, I don't buy any greens. Just use what's in my garden and pick it fresh each day.

I was planning on giving him fruit (other than carrot) about 3 times a week. maybe a few pieces thrown on top of the greens. I cut the carrot back to a tbsp a day in his dinner every night. I was giving him way too much I think.

The garden sounds perfect. I can't wait until mine start to produce. Should be in about another month-month and a half. Now I just need to get some of these edible flowers I keep hearing about planted.

Side note: I tested the zucchini out last night and when I saw his plate this morning, every speck of green was gone... except for the zucchini pieces. Lol. My bun is actually pretty picky, so this is going to be a lot of trial and error. [emoji29]
