Is small pet select worth it?

I have two rabbits one which is a 5 pound dutch, and the other a 10 pound new Zealand. I've been trying to find ways to save money on hay, pellets, and litter. I spend about 15 dollars a week on hay for a 5 pound bag, the sad thing is most of it gets wasted and I feel like I could spread it to two week if I found a way were they could waste less. So, I spend roughly 60 dollars or sometimes more on hay a month. I've bought a 55 pound bale from Standlee but my rabbits don't like it as much as the oxbow hay. I spend about 20 dollars a month on pellets which isn't too bad. For litter I get a 45 pound bag of wood pellets for about 7 dollars and I get this about every week since my rabbits like to pee a lot. So, I spend about 24 dollars a month on litter. I do admit that I put a lot in their litter boxes (like 3 inches) meaning I could give them less litter. How many inches of litter do you guys put in your rabbits litter box? I also have to purchase them miscellaneous things like veggies and their supplements which is another 49 dollars.

I began searching for cheap stores that sell good quality rabbit food for cheap, and I came across small pet select. I saw that they have bundles and one bundle that stood out was the 2nd cut Timothy + Rabbit Food pellets + Bedding bundle. The option that I was interested in was the 10 lbs 2nd cut timothy hay, 5 lbs food pellets, and 56 L paper bedding and I could get all this for 58 dollars!! I'm just worried that it might not be enough for two rabbits to last a month. I've gotten 5 lbs bags of pellets before and they can last me a month, the only thing I'm worried about would be the hay and bedding. I would just really like your opinion and do you guys think it would last? I'm thinking about purchasing it once just to see if it will last me a month. I get rabbits can be expensive and I don't mind spending the money on them, but it would be nice to be able to save a little money Also, if any of you know where to get good pellets or hay for a good price please let me know!

If you have one close, you can try Tractor Supply. They have all sorts of hay and pellets there for rabbits. Just make sure to read the ingredients to make sure there's no corn in it. I only put enough litter at the bottom to cover the bottom since I also use a puppy pad. And the litter I use are kiln dried pine horse stall pellets, which absorbs better than the small pet select does. Small Pet Select is worth it for the hay and pellets, plus cheaper than Oxbow in terms of those same things. I get some Small Pet Select products from Amazon, and others from their official website. You might want to compare prices between the two before deciding.

I buy Oxbow Orchard Grass Hay on line at Chewy.com where it is sold in 50 pound boxes. It is expensive but it is hand sorted, so there is less waste to it, a and I can count on good quality every time. It costs a little over $60 unless you get autoship. Orchard Grass is less expensive than Timothy Hay, but I don't think that there is much difference in nutrition, as long as it has good quality. I have tried buying hay from feed stores, but I can't count on the quality. I have never bought Standlee hay so I don't know how good it is.

I also use wood pellets, but I just use a small layer on the bottom of the litter box. If I use more, my rabbits will dig in their boxes and spread it all over the floor. I put a hand full of hay at one end of the box. Some of my rabbits I still need to put a grate in the box to keep the rabbits from digging. I have a small dust pan, not much bigger than a pancake turner, and I scoop out the wet litter from some boxes that get little use.

The scoop is a great idea! And my rabbits LOVE to dig in their litter boxes and it becomes a mess. I put roughly 3 inches of litter in their boxes. I would use puppy pads with a little bit of litter, but one of my rabbits loves to eat them so I stopped using them. Do you think newspaper would work instead? Because they dont eat newspaper and I can get a whole bunch free at my local grocery store.

Thank you so much! I looked on chewy and figured out that I can get their supplements, hay, and food pellets way cheaper! The wood pellets I use are pretty cheap I can get 40 pounds for 7 dollars at my local supply store. I saw that they have oxbow timothy hay cheap for 25 pounds but the reviews were 50/50. Have you ever purchased it?

No I completely agree! I do need to use less litter. I've been starting to use less and now a 40 pound bag can last me about two weeks sometimes three. But the bags are really cheap so I dont mind spending the money on it. Also, my dutch doesnt eat much hay, she likes it but doesnt eat nearly as much as my new Zealand. I'm hoping a 20 pound box would last me.

I have 4 rabbits and they go through 50 pounds in 4 months, so that would be a little over 3 pounds per month for each rabbit. I make sure that they have hay at all times.

Since I bought a 150lb (not 110 like my original post says) hay bale for $35 from the Standlee store in my town, I'm still working on it. I have about 10lbs in a hay box near their litter and the main bale JUST got to the point where I can close the top of the cardboard box my SPS 50lb hay came in. I got it around the 20th of May. I top the litter box with the hay and since I have two boxes and reusable puppy pads, I don't have to change them as often. Maybe every other day, depending how often they use it that day.

I also found a feather in it which I know can happen. My rabbits still eat the hay, but if I were to repurchase it I know I would look through it before I box it. I bought hay at a feed store once and it had a couple of dehydrated frogs in it. At another feed store I got a bale of hay with about 4 crushed soda pop cans in it, and also some recites from a gas station, and they were stained with dirty oil. I complained and I was told that the hay must have come from a ditch. They buy their hay from a hay auction, so they really don't know where the hay comes from!

The only hay I give my rabbits is Orchard grass hay. I don't spray my lawn with chemicals, so I sometimes cut some lawn grass and give it to my rabbits before I mow my lawn. I also feed my rabbits greens and pellets. Right now I am feeding oxbow pellets. I get them from Chewy also because I can get them at a better price in a 25 pound bag. I am now looking into other brands because my oldest rabbit is losing weight and so I want some pellets with more calories. I buy a big bag of romaine lettuce from Sam's Club. I buy Romaine because it keeps longer. I also buy Organic Spring Mix, but it has too much spinach in it, so I pick out most of the spinach and eat that myself.
