I want to provide a dig box for my rabbits using children's play sand (soil would be too messy as they're indoor and shredded paper would make it be used as a litter box)
I see there's quite a divide between some saying it's safe and others saying it causes uri and impaction
What are your thoughts and if you're against it could you provide an actual study that supports that it has negative effects on rabbits, as I have yet to find any

Hi, I was thinking of it as well on a few occasions but never tried so will be here to see other comments

I don't think there is anything wrong with sand, it makes a great digging box! I would only make sure that the sand doesn't have large bits of rock in it.

I think it's fine as long as it is sifted through, so there are no bits of rocks in it.

I think sand has the possibility to get into your rabbit’s eyes
and make a mess.

I’d try paper bedding/shredded paper instead.
(shouldn’t be same material as litter box) :)

I have used sterilised topsoil. It's not messier than sand. You just have to make sure the digging box is tall enough.
