Hello all! I'm Shelby! I'm 20 yrs old from Pittsburgh PA.

I have never had rabbits before but I do find them fascinating, fun and cute! Im a big parrot person for sure and plan to help my friend with his parrot rescue in the future. Also I'm currently attending CCAC majoring in business and biology. I would like to open a multi species board and kennel services with on the spot veterinary care on location.

I would very much love to breed Rex rabbits both for pets and meat since the fur is of great quality it could be used instead of discarded :) I have some plans drawn out literally and mentally of how I'd like the rabbitry to be. I have done a lot of research and I know I still have more to do ^^. I will be on this forum mostly to get advice instead of giving advice like I do at talkparrots.

Id love to get to know fellow rabbit people and perhaps make local breeder friends etc. Thanks for reading and hope everyone has a great day! :D

Welcome to the forum. I am one of the pet only people, although there are also breeders on this site. I think that there is a section of this site that you can get breeding info and discuss issues that may make some of the other members uncomfortable. Good luck finding a bunny.

Yup, some of us put out little guys on a bit of a pedestal. Not that we are unaware of the meat/breeder end. No offense taken. Your parrot rescue sound interesting. Do you have some photos that you can post? Sounds wonderful idea to provide vet care onsite. There are too few exotic vets.

Welcome Shelby! I live in Jamestown, PA -- not too far from Pitt where my son and grandkids live : )

Welcome to the forum!
rex rabbits are one of my favorite breeds of rabbit. I own one who I love dearly so the thought of them being used as food is upsetting but to each their own I guess...
Im sure you'll enjoy the forum. There are lots of very sweet people here
:biggrin2:

Welcome to the Forum. Look forward to discussing rabbits and wishing you good luck on your endeavors to opening up multi species board and kennel service with on the spot vet service. Definitely need more people who know about exotics.

K :)

Thanks guys! And I don't mean to be offensive. To me it's like, Im such a bird person and chickens are so cute! But who am I to say eating chicken would be desturbing, ya know? I think just since chickens were more of a hit then rabbit is why there's so much mass production of them. But don't get me wrong I think rabbits are cute too ^^ and just cuz some might be for meat doesn't mean they can't live in a fancy schmancy rabbit house or get time to play with people. But there's be certain traits I'd look for for the pet vs food ones

Also yes when I get on a computer (I'm on my iPhone still lol) I can upload pics of my rescued birds and some of my friends rescues as well ^^

I couldnt find an "Off Topic" part of the forum so I'll post here for now. Here is my birdies Buster is a grey wing colbalt English Budgie, Gracie (RIP)is an opaline yellow-faced sky blue dominant pied budgie, Willie is a sky blue dominant pied budgieand Hector(RIP) is a cinnamon cockatiel. The ones who passed away i could tell you why if you like since they were just freak things that happened.

Oh, oops thanks sorry i didnt read into it, I saw hare and was like hare=rabbit=not birds and crabs lol My allergies are kicking my butt so I'm not all here today, I can post there if youlike :D

I think its fine right here. We have a red throat conure. His name is Zazu. He is my husbands bird, and he is a handful. So, I dont know how you do it with multiple birds at a time, but kudos to you :)

Hi! Welcome to RO!

I have 8 zebra finches. Not very exotic, but they are cute and I love their little beeping noise.

Believe it or not, I was looking at the magazine choices at the grocery store last night. They had 2 on chickens (3 if you count the back yard farm one) and none specifically for buns. I think they are becoming much more popular. I don't eat chicken either, but I do like eggs. My basic rule is not to eat anything that had a face :)

Aww! Red throated conures are cute too! And thanks. I only have 2 at the moment but a friend is fostering a pied pearl tiel and an Indian fan tailed dove until I get a place with my boyfriend, then I'll be they're forever home ^^

Finches are adorable! Their beeping sound is one of the cutest sounds in my opinion! A person was going to surrender some to me cuz hers were breeding and she had too many, however within that week when she took the cage outside the wild cat opened the cage door and 20 of them escaped, 1 came back leaving her with only 7 I believe.. The poor things and poor woman. I went to the area often but never saw another zebra finch.

Because I'm on my iPhone I couldn't edit my previous post so also I do eat chicken, and mostly anything not spicy. I love animals and find that we are also animals and some animals kill mercilessly to eat when I find it's good we can have feelings and do things in a humane way.

Also found this magazine at sams club! I really like it!

That looks like an interesting magazine, I will have to check it out. The pet store also has a couple bun specific ones that I get.

How sad for the finches! All she has to do is remove the nesting place. The girls will still lay eggs, but they fall through the floor so they are never incubated. They sleep on the perches happily when they aren't nesting anyway. There really is no reason to have a nest in the cage. Also, so many chicks back to back really wears out the parents. We had two clutches before I learned, so I totally understand how you can get overwhelmed.

It is cute. Has a lots great stuff in it. Also yes she needed to get rid of the nestboxes. They dOnt need them however it's usually ok for the eggs to go to the bottom but it's never good to remove the eggs, cuz she could keep laying. Unless you have fake eggs to put in place of the originals.
