Inside or outside??

My bunnies have lived outside their whole lives.They seem to like it and absolutly love it in my garden. When i havebought them in the house they just seem scaredandibrought them inside to play for a bit after ibought them so i've just left them outside now. Everybody says thatbunnies should live inside. I think that people assume that outsiderabbits have a horrible life but my bunnies don't. They have a massivehutch and 2 runs with plenty of toys. I give them loads of attentionandthey are2 sisters so they are never alone. Plusmy family don't want them inside as it looks 'like a pig sty' plus ihave a cat. I've thought that from all the websites and books andthings that they have to live inside but mine seem happy enough. Anycomments?? Or ideas?? I'm confused??:?

I've meet alot of happy bunnies that live outside and it sounds like your are just fine.

good to know thanx, i was just a bit worriedabout my buns, anyway when i did used to bring them in they chewed upthe sofa....tried to chew the TV wires....and made a break for it downthe hall....yeah i think they'll be fine outside, lol

Rabbits are fine outside, provided they haveprotection from predators and temperature extremes. The problem withrabbits outside comes from the owners. It's obvious you love yourrabbits, but there are a lot of people who get a rabbit for their kid,put it in a hutch in the back yard, and don't do more for them thangive them food and water occasionally. Then they wonder why the cagessmell and the kid can't handle the rabbit. Cause he hasn't been touchedin a month, duh.

Sorry, I had to rant about that. You can often tell a loved outdoorrabbit from an ignored outdoor rabbit in a second. I always feel so badfor them.

me too!! I hate it when people just leaverabbits in a tiny hutch with no company or toys and they are hardlyever let out for exercise-It makes me soo angry!!whenyou spend time with rabits they are they best pets but alot of peopledon't bother. poor bunnies. my friend has 2 bunnies outside. they get upsetif she brings them in since they have been outside all their life. theyget lots of attention and time to run so they r happy, i agree that aslong as the rabbit has lots of room, shelter,andentertainment that outside is fine.

Except for problems with heat in the summer - Idon't think the location matters nearly as much as the quality ofhousing AND the relationship with the owners (aka"bunnyslaves"). If a bunny has regular interaction andsocialization with its people and has time to play and a safe cage nomatter where it is....then I think its probably a happy (and healthy)rabbit.

I personally prefer to keep mine indoors....but that is what works for us with the Texas heat.

Arrrghh...this is SO true naturestee. Our neighbor's son HAD(emphasis on HAD) a rabbit in an outside hutch for 2 yrs....all theyfed it was carrots and pellets. No hay. The waterbowl ALWAYS had algae in it. He never played with it....nevertook it out of the hutch....no toys....nothing to chew on except hiswooden house. It broke my heart. We offered to takehim, but they insisted they wanted him. We would go over andtalk to him occasionally, but of course he was afraid ofhumans. Then one day the cage was empty....I cried.The poor little thing had such a lonely, boring life.

Hey Bunnys Rule! I have outsidebunnies too! Well, that was the plan. I bring theminside this time of year. Highs near 115 here inTucson. But most of the time, they are outside. Butthey love it both inside and outside. I am lucky, I have roomoutside for a huge hutch, a gigantic run and space for a large 3-storyNIC Condo inside. I think they like it outside getting freshair and sunshine. I bet it'snice for them to kickback in the dirt, stretched out, or digging in the dirt, hearing thebirds chirp and the wind blow. I don't know...I am kind of aspaz! I like to keep them from getting bored. Theyget quite the treatment at the Kricket Farm.

Oh. My. Gawd! I know exactly what you mean! Makesme SO mad! :X Usually people that get a bunnyfortheir kid for Easter. Yeah, they are left at theend of the yard, with no companionship and just some pellets and water,and ICEBURG LETTUCE!! (Sorry, I know someone that didthis!) GRRRRrrrrr!

My sons and daughters rabbits are outside,mydaughters boyfriend has very bad allergies and asthma.we just built anew outside playpen.my son was in it for two hours with the bunnies ifinally had to make him get out to go to bed.bluebird

Hi, i have one rabbit outside and one inside,because of the extreme cold one night he damaged the nerves in his eye.Generally though its ok to keep them outside, i hadthreerabbits living outside previous and they were absolutly fine.

hi! sorry i have been busy so haven't been onfor afew days. Thanks alot of all your comments on the inside outsidething, it's been a big help. Also thanks for your comments about mybunnies. They are rexes but i'm not sure if they are castor rexes,sorry! boy is that ever so true! All but two of my rabbits are outdoors. Butalot of attention to them. I have gotten ones from people that haventbeen handled properly as rescues. Or they were left in outdoor cagesthey could escape from. Then made their way over into my yard.

I would say they are ok outside as long as youare socailizing them (which you obviously are!) , and handling them. rabbits do just fine outdoors as long as they are protected frompredators, and the eliments.
